Gauge and Size Question

January '08 Kit Questions | January 31, 2008
By Laura

This is my first year in the club and obviously my first pattern but I was wondering what shoe size does a Women’s Small, Medium and Large correspond to? How does this take into account foot width and circumference? I would greatly appreciate any input from the more experienced members (or those who have already started/finished their socks.) I have small ankles and thin, long feet (depending on the shoe 10.5 to 12). I am a bit torn as to which size to try.I know that gauge varies from knitter to knitter, but I am curious to know what size needles people are using to knit their socks to obtain this gauge? I apparently don’t own small enough needles to obtain the proper gauge. (I need 00 or 000 needles, my US 0 just isn’t small enough.)

Yarn Crawl to/from Camp

Camp Crows Feet | January 31, 2008
By Alice in the Heartland

This started over on Ravelry but I think it needs to be here too.  There are at least  6 people interested in doing a yarn crawl either on the way to camp or on the way home. I’m planning on getting to Seattle early and scoping out the possibilities and maybe getting a route planned out. My current plan is to pick up my riders at the airport on Saturday and head out on the crawl as early as possible. I’d like to include Churchmouse Yarns(?) on the crawl if possible and I’ve heard many good things about Weaving Works. If anybody has any other suggestions please leave a comment. If you’d like to join this merry band, leave a comment. If you have a preference for before or after camp please leave that comment too. We may have access to a small school bus for this un-sponsored activity. I do need to be in Friday Harbor Sunday night as that is where I have reservations. A trip to the local alpaca farm is in the works for either Sunday or Monday morning.  Looking forward to the adventure. Happy Knitting, Alice

Judy Becker’s Magic Cast On

General Knitting Questions | January 31, 2008
By Louise Thibodaux

I have tried this cast on, but I am having trouble with tension.  I can follow the instructions in Cat Bordhi’s book (pp. 23-24) but by the time I am on my 10th loop the needles drawing are so close together that I can barely slip the yarn between them.  Does anyone have a clue as to how to keep myself from this degree of tension?

Need some help, just starting the lace part

January '08 Kit Questions | January 31, 2008
By Annette Lemmons

I am just starting the lace part.  I am fairly  new to knitting (Apr of ‘07) and this is my 4th pair of socks and the first using magic loop.  I am starting the lace and did the first row.  I am sure it is obvious that 11 stiches in the pattern repeat does not divide nicely into 64 stiches of the sock.  My question is (before I get too far down the leg and find I messed up) is when I get the the end of the first row there are only 2 stiches of the k4 of the pattern, do I k4 and then start my next row from there (2 stiches in on the first needle)? If so, where do I put the marker or does is just move to mark where the next odd numbered row starts?  Thanks in advance for any tips.

Heel Help

General Knitting Questions | January 30, 2008
By Erin Martin

I’m ready to do my first heel. But I am confounded by the directions. Should the “end” of the row be in the middle of the heel? Or is the beginning of the heel row at the beginning of the leg row? By beginning I mean the place where I brought both ends together to knit on the round for the first row. If I make the beginning of the row in the center of the heel, then I think I need to break the yarn. I must be totally wrong, so I am wondering if anyone can be more descriptive about what to do with this heel. Any websites you can send me to? Thanks!

designer’s corner

Designer's Corner | January 29, 2008
By adrienne in the bellybutton of california

hello, rockin’ sockers!

my name is adrienne and i am a sockaholic! ahh, anyone else here with that problem? yeah?! i think i must be in the right place. now that i have properly introduced myself, i can get on with the rest of the post.

first, i am so excited to be posting under this heading. how excited, you might ask. well, imagine your excitement at seeing a bmfa rockin’ sock club package on your doorsteps. i have been there and it is VERY exciting…happy dancing all around!!! when tina wrote that she wanted to use my design for the sock club, it was HAPPY DANCING ALL AROUND CLOUD 9, 10, AND 11!!!!!!!!! and i am still dancing.

it has been a little nerve-racking but very fun following the landing of the packages around the world (kind of mind boggling when you think about it) and reading your reactions to both the yarn and the pattern. i am happy (maybe “relieved” is a better word) that most of you posting have liked the pattern. hopefully, some of you will really love the pattern. yeah! it’s an ego thing. lol!

i love playing with tina’s colorways (who doesn’t) and my stitch pattern books. i love lace and cables, especially when they are together! and i love it when i finally find a pattern that makes “magic” with the yarn’s colors.

i am a one sock at a time magic looper who may knit both socks at the same time on two separate circs. i have tried 2 socks on 2 circs but really did not enjoy the knit. my preference is for cuff down, heel flap/gusset, and wedge toe.

i cannot believe that some of you have already finished your socks. i haven’t start my own personal pair yet.

welcome to my first (and hopefully not last) contribution to the rockin’ sock club! i hope it brings you fun and happiness. (i love you, tina!)

Fun with Blog Buttons!

Announcements | January 29, 2008
By Tina

By popular demand, we’ve created two buttons you can use on your blogs, Web sites, and so on to identify yourself as a member of the 2008 Rockin’ Sock Club. Please feel free to link these to this blog or to the Blue Moon Fiber Arts Web site.

Here are the buttons. If you know how to save these onto your computer and put them on your own Web site, go for it.

I'm in the RSC Club! I'm in the RSC Club!

If you need the HTML code, here it is.

First graphic: <a href="http://www.rockinsockclub.com/" title="I'm in the Rockin' Sock Club!"><img src="http://rockinsockclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/rsc_member1.gif" alt="I'm in the Rockin' Sock Club!" border="0" /></a>

And, because so many of you are having fun on Ravelry, we’ve made an “official” RSC spoiler graphic you can use when you upload the yarn to your stash, or put the project in your queue.
