It would be most helpful when you are responding to a post to hit comment and put your response there and not to create another post.
It keeps the blog easy to read and navigate.
I think we were all excited yesterday and testing our logins. Which is great! Going forward, though, let’s all try to be respectful of each other’s time and give some thought to whether we really need to start a new post, or if what we want to say is actually a response to an existing one. For instance, if you wanted to weigh in on whether I’m being too bossy trying to dictate when you should post and when you should comment, the place to do that would be in a comment on this post!
The other benefit to commenting on a post rather than starting a new one is that when one of us searches for particular topic, it is all there in one place under that heading. Otherwise each of these posts expressing your excitement and greetings from today and yesterday show individually as their own topic. A whole lot to navigate.
Thank you Lynae for bringing this up. Susie and I were talking this morning about this and ways to remedy it. Ideas are welcome.
I also know that there are those that would prefer a different format and I am sorry. As I have said many times it is not possible to make everyone happy.
We have done our best to create something that I feel will work very well once we have gotten out feet wet. Which is also the best way to block socks!!
thanks

Dear Boss Lady Tina,
As a graegoose, I must confess my feet are now wet, and I will try to put my comments in the proper place, and try to keep my feet in rockin socks and out of my mouth. I know you are just trying to control the unbridled excitement we are all feeling while we wait for those fabulous 08 kits. I’m so glad to be back for year 3.
Hope you are doing well. RaeDean
THANKS to everyone! I had that dreaded feeling that I was going to get royally flamed!
I have to admit that I was VERY hesitant to post. However, there were 8 members of my knitting group who were in the RSC last year and ALL 8 stopped reading the blog last year by April. We were talking about this on Wednesday, and two of the new members to our group commented the same thing. Knowing that ALL 10 of our little subsection of the RSC felt that way, I started thinking that it might be a more universal feeling.
The funny thing is….most of us would have kept reading the blog and read all the posts including ALL of the comments had the blog been easeir.
Bring on the yarn!
I support this post. I was thinking the same thing as Lynae, but as a first year-er I didn’t feel comfortable voicing my opinion. I’m very relieved to see that I’m no where near being the only one.
THANK YOU!! The instructions made it clear to this newbie…duly noted, as my staff always say to me when I give them instructions….duly noted.
How would we all feel about adding some pre-defined categories/sub-categories? We could start with some obvious ones from Yrs. 1 & 2, knowing that there would be add-ons and things the simply did not fit anywhere.
We have several highly internet literate members and/or Junior members. Perhaps they could start the list that might get us started down an organized, RSS-friendly path. Everyone’s input would continue to be welcome and we would not do everything perfectly on the first try. This is beginning to sound like fitting socks.
I wonder if it is OK to frog a blog?
Sub-categories to “Notorious Sock Knitters”
Once the international packages leave, someone could start the ‘ (Month)Outbound/Inbound Shipment’ thread–as packages arrive, we could put our excited comments there.
Another good category might be ‘Introductions’.
I reserve the right to be wrong.
all great minds and all
was thinking the same thing last night when I could not sleep
there will show soon!
Thanks! I’ll try to be good this year!

I think what I like the best so far, is how everyone has started off on the foot of “Hey, this is a suggestion, but I’m not married to it.” fantastic. I am hooked already.
Unfortunately we are married to this blog set up and with that said I’m glad Lynae spoke up and told us something simple we can all do to help her and many others stick with the blog this year. I’ll admit I’m a blog ill-literate and on dial-up so I have no acquaintance with bloglines or rss feeds other than they show up on some of the blogs I follow. I can, however, learn to look for a post that fits the comment I’d like to make and if it’s not already there then start a new post.
I think we also need to pay more attention to that category list that shows up when we write posts. If you don’t take the time to check off which is the most appropriate category it automatically gets put in the NSK. If the post is about Camp or a question about the current sock kit it get lost in the general blog. It may take us awhile but we do catch on eventually. Happy Knitting everyone, Alice
PS most recent posts in any category end up on the front page of the blog below the “Blue Moon” announcement posts so that’s another reason to watch out for spoilage.
can we change our username, would like to use something not displayed on the choices?
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I too stopped reading the 2007 blog because it was difficult to follow and there were too many posts. I think that properly using the comment feature will help. Keep up the good work! and thank you for all your hard work.
I am looking forward to the ‘08 sock club. Like others, there were moments when I found last year’s blog a challenge. On the other hand, there were many posts that helped me learn more about my knitting, about color, and how to solve problems with particular sock patterns — in my case this invariably revolved around needle size.
Thank you to everyone who addressed posting vs commenting on the blog. I sheepishly admit that I am one of those individuals who use an RSS feed and wound up visiting the blog less and less because of this issue. I’m glad it was brought up and everyone seems OK with it. Knitters are great… and RSC members are even more awesome!
I tell you, I am so much happier that I have discovered the RSS for the comments. Last year I used Bloglines which, I think, would only show me the unread posts but I would have to navigate the blog to see any comments. Now I’m using the RSS feeds on IE to read both the newest posts and the newest comments. MUCH BETTER!
I think it will be great if we can stick to comments rather than new posts when appropriate. I read this blog via the site (not RSS or bloglines or anything), but when time is limited it’s great to not have to look at every ‘me too’… on the other hand there are times when I want to read every word of what everyone thinks about the new shipment (or whatever).
It occurs to me that this will also help those people who want to avoid spoilers… Just one post to avoid
I hope that we can also use the categories more consistently this year. In the end, last year, I just read the posts sequentially via the monthly archives, rather than use the categories.
This is looking like a great improvement on last year’s blog (and last year’s wasn’t exactly bad). Lets see if we can keep it that way!
