Notorious Sock Knitters | January 23, 2008
Hi everybody!
I signed up for Rockin’ Sock Club totally on a whim and since, have been asking myself “What did I DO?” I’ve never knit with STR before, infact: last year I only finished one sock (it’s very pretty though!)
I’m really, really looking forward to a year of STR and to getting to know all of you.

I’m a newbie too, but I have a bit more sock experience. I am looking forward to the unique patterns and yarns! Can harldy wait for my first package!
Hi Marji!
P.S. I forgot to mention that I’m Calgary. Make 1 will soon have their eCommerce site up - I hope everybody will check it out. It’s a wonderful store.
You’ll be just fine, Marji. I had only done a couple pairs of socks before joining last year. The yarn is addicting. The biggest problem you will have is not wanting to knit with anyone else’s sock yarn.
The patterns are very well written and if you have an trouble, the other members are more than willing to lend a helping hand. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something. Last year I learned that I had been doing my purl yarn overs all wrong. My socks looked much better after I that.

I’m another newbie — to the club, less so for socks. I made 8 pairs of socks last year (ravelry: fossicker) but am only now knitting my first pair with STR. I bought the yarn when I was visiting my sister in Washington state last fall (I live in Chicago, none of the shops near me carry it). They are monkeys in nodding violet lightweight. I am enjoying everything about them. Is it heresy to suggest I may not be ready to swear off all other sock yarn? Not saying the str doesn’t, in fact, rock — but panda cotton is also nice and really a different kind of thing entirely.
Hi! Another Newbie here. I learned to knit socks this past fall. I’m finishing up a pair for my 10-year-old son, which I’d better do before my package arrives!! This sounds like lots of fun, and I’m looking forward to knitting with STR yarn and getting to know new folks! Thanks to those of you prior club members for welcoming the newcomers and giving us encouragement!!
Yep, newbie - I really joined the club to “expand my horizons” regarding yarn selections. Oh, and because I saw some of the Raven series yarn at a friend’s house and it was yummy!!! I’m finishing the second sock of my first pair of toe ups. And, I’m already addicted to sock yarn - at this moment, for a new-ish sock knitter, I think 6 stashed skeins of sock yarn is a bit much. I’m working on increasing that number!!!
Another Blue Moon newcomer here, but not so to sock knitting. In fact I like to teach sock knitting, although I don’t have much toe-up experience. I am just a sucker for colorful fiber, especially for socks. One can justify wearing socks in a color way over which one would ooh and ahh, then fondle, and ooh and ah some more…. then, schemingly (and likely, without the foggiest idea of a project to knit), whip out a credit card for the large, inane purchase. Then the poor, poor, bagful of beautiful colored yarn is destined for the closet. What was I thinking? Oi!
Sock yarn is easier to hide. I’m having mine delivered to my neighbor. Just kidding.
I can hardly wait for my first installment! and meeting other crazed sock knitters like me.
Cheers!
I’m a newbie also! My kids got together and gave me a membership for my birthday…a historic moment for me since this is the first “cooperative” gift I’ve received from them. I’m so proud that I raised three kids who understand the importance of yarn to their mom. I love making socks and love Blue Moon yarn…can’t wait for the first package to arrive.
I’m in Sacramento CA…anyone else in this part of the world? And is anyone planning a trip to Stitches West? My daughter and I will be taking the Amtrak “yarn train” again this year…it’s quite an event!
I am a newcomer to the sock club and to sock knitting but not to the fabulous bmfa yarn. A friend was working with it at my LYS and I just had to get some. I can’t wait for the first shipment. I just hope that I can actually knit a pair of socks.
I’m new to a sock club, but not sock knitting. I live in Eugene,Oregon & would love to start a group of sock knitters. We could help each other as the sock club kits arrive. Any one interested??? Let me know Tammie
Not to seem ignorant but what is STR??
This is my first year in the sock club and have only made the “class sock” in Charlene Schurch SENSATIONAL KNITTED SOCKS
Thanks!
I didn’t know either but I googled it. Is STR socks that rock?
STR is Socks that Rock. You’ll probably see BMFA here and there too…that is Blue Moon Fiber Arts.
This is my first year in the sock club, too. I’m excited to try new patterns and sock constructions…I’ve been doing top down/heel flap for too long now.
I’m a newbie too! I have been coveting all the colorways on the the BMFA webpage and was back and forth about joining the RSC. Finally I just jumped in with both feet! And then I had to confess to my SO, luckily, he totally supports my yarn habit! Yay! Glad to know there are other newbies out there. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone! And, of course, the fab yarn!
I am also a newbie. I found out about the existence of the club literally right after membership closed last year. This year I got my membership from “Santa Claus” and I have been neurotically checking this site since Christmas waiting for news of the first shipment. Needless to say, I’m practically peeing my pants in anticipation of my first arrival. Socks are the reason I learned to knit in the first place. And when I took my first trip to my LYS, the response I got from the lady who worked there was “you’re gonna start with socks????”… but I succeeded and have not stopped knitting since. I’m uber excited for this year in socks!
I am also new to the club, and to socks as well. I have made exactly 2 pairs of socks so far, both of them this fall. Heard about STR on some podcasts that I listen to and then I found them at Stitches East, and of course, had to buy some. I made my very first pair of socks ever with STR. They are too big, full of mistakes, and just beautiful! Then I learned how to darn for the first time when I tore a hole in one of them!! I have found the sock thing to be really quite addictive, I don’t know why… but I am sooo excited about the sock club this year!
I am new to this club also, and I would call myself an intermediate sock knitter. I have been knitting them for about a year and a half, and I have become totally addicted. I also heard about STR from podcasts. This was a last minute January birthday gift from my family, they rock!! I am from the Hudson Valley in New York, about 90 minutes north of NYC, any other New Yorkers out there??
This is my first time in the club and the first time knitting with STR yarn. I love sock knitting and loved the idea of a club devoted to it.
