Mine says Ddraig Goch. According to Wikipedia: It is Welsh for the red dragon. It appears on the national Flag of Wales (the flag itself is also called “Y Ddraig Goch”), and is the most famous dragon in Britain.
Mine says Jabberwock: “Jabberwocky” is a poem of nonsense verse written by Lewis Carroll, and found as a part of his novel Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (1871).
‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.
‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
Mine says “Big Snore”- from an old board game called Don’t Wake the Dragon by Parker Brothers, in which you are a penguin trying to rescue your eggs from Big Snore the dragon.
Mine says (once I deciphered the font) Mayland Long. A brief websearch tells me he’s the dragon from the book “Tea with the Black Dragon”. I liked this description of the book:
“Mayland Long. is a 2,000 year old dragon who felt frustrated with his life’s inertia. I suppose being a dragon could become boring after 2,000 years. He is instructed by a Tao Master in China to come to America, take the form of a man, and wait until he meets the one person who can help him progress in his quest to know more of life.” (http://www.lostbooks.org/reviews/2000-06-23-1.html)

Mine says Falkor, also, from Neverending Story. This prompted us to watch the movie last night while I broke my promise to myself and started the socks. I wasn’t supposed to start anything right now, as we are packing to move and my son’s wedding is 3 months away and I have to knit a shawl for his wife.
I took the luckdragon as a sign of good fortune. I’m waiting for job offers from the interview trip last week. It’s moving so slowly, that I was starting to freak out just a bit. Then I got my kit, and well, I’m a bit calmer, but knitting the socks for luck.
Mine is also Ramoth, I didn’t recognize it but my teenager did. The same teenager responsible for me getting STR as a Christmas present. I think I’ll have to keep her!
I got a Jabberwock as well. Which I of course automatically recognized as my sister is a huge Alice in Wonderland fan. Does anyone remember the 1985 Alice in Wonderland TV movie? That’s automatically what I thought of when I saw my yarn label.
Mine is “Big Snore” now I have to track down a copy of the old Parker Bros. game “Don’t Wake the Dragon.” Me dorky? Nah!

Seiryuu reigns over the East, controlling warfare, the season of Spring, and the element of metal. He is generally a benevolent dragon, but he will never back down from a fight or a challenge.

I can’t wait to get mine, I hope it says Ramoth, too. That is my absolute favorite series of books!! It would be quite a coincidence. Just finished reading the newest one, Dragon Harper. Cool!
I’m another one with a baby dragon in the house - Norbert, by name! Maybe my cat thinks he’s Norbert and that’s why he’s been challenging and attacking me lately!?!
I love fun facts to know and tell, so here’s mine: What’s the difference between eastern (Asian) and western (European) dragons? The (traditional) European dragons are all about negative use of power - they use their strength, claws, and fire to capture and hoard what they can’t actually use, e.g. virgins, jewels. Asian dragons, on the other hand, are all about energy moving forward. You can usually find the object of the eastern dragon’s quest in pictures: somewhere near the dragon is a ball with stylized flames coming off of it. This is the pearl of wisdom, which is all that the dragon seeks.
Interesting how different these two dragon stories are, huh?
I have Ninereeds too. I’ve read some Terry Pratchett and don’t remember him at all! I think I have “The Colour of Magic” in my bookshelf; I’ll have to re-read.

I got Mayland Long. I had to have it explained to me, especially since I haven’t actually taken my ball band off. I was peeking up inside and thought it said “Magland” instead of “Mayland.” Apparently Mayland Long is from the book, “Tea with the Black Dragon.”
I’m another Falkor recipient. Cute picture of a little black, Asian dragon. I’m going to need the help of a luckdragon to finish all of the socks in this year’s club. My husband threw down the gauntlet…if they aren’t all finished by the start of next year’s club I can’t join! YIKES.
Actually I just realized today that my daughter had the Don’t Wake the Dragon game when she was little and loved it! So now the yarn label is even more special! Almost forgot to check my label too.
Another Big Snore here.
I’m a big Pern fan so dragon names that don’t end with “th” seem a little odd to me.
I got the Ddraig Goch one as well. Yippee! This club is so much fun!
Big Snore here!!! Are you other Big Snores in the UK? I’d be interested to know if the labels are geographic… No not nerdy at all.
I gotta Smaug!
From Wiki -”One of the last great dragons of Middle-earth, Smaug is the main antagonist in The Hobbit who had previously laid waste to the town of Dale and captured the Lonely Mountain (Erebor) with all its treasure”
Another Smaug here
Mine should have said “Hungarian Horntail” from Harry Potter, but did not. Love this color.
Sharon
“Ninereeds”
This is the only information I could find on what Ninereeds is:
“Errol, Ninereeds and other dragons in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, notably The Colour of Magic and Guards! Guards!”
Also another Smaug
Mine in SMAUG, my son tells me he is the dragon from the Hobbit who guarded the jewels & his belly was covered with jewels!!!!! COOL
Mine says Puff next to my little dragon. I have my label in my folder with all of the other sock parapher….er stuff.
Looks like we have another fearsome monster, my lable has
Tarasque.
Anyone know who/what “Falror” stands for?
I think it’s actually “FALKOR”, who is the wish dragon from the movie “The Never Ending Story”.
It would be really fun to track and see, say, how many of us Big Snores end up in the same group next time!
Being a newbie, I’m really curious to see how it varies…Kinda wish I was something other than a Big Snore….but my husband would probably say it’s a very apt “label” for me…smile.
There’s a Jabberwock in Grass Valley too!
Mayland Long here.
Mine says “Puff” and I have saved my label in my binder.
Mine says ZU.
Hi Amy, I was just figuring it out. I’m glad you thought the same. “Falkor” it is!!
Thanks again,
Karen
Mine says “ZU”.
Another Seiryuu here. Glad that I had others to decipher for me. I had no clue as to how to figure it out… Always late to the party! LOL.
