General Knitting Questions | January 27, 2008
I’m a freshman sock club member and I have huge feet! Women’s size 11-12 depending upon the shoe brand. I’m worried that I won’t have enough yarn since I’ve never used STR before. Will there be more available to purchase if I run out?

They usually have the club colorways for sale on the website for sock club members only. They haven’t posted this color yet, but I am sure they will soon.
Also members with small feet are usually willing to donate/exchange extra if you do run out and only need a bit more. If you get to that point post a request on the blog. BMFA tends to be fairly generous with their skeins and not too many last year seemed to be looking for yarn to make it to the end of the second toe. Happy Knitting, Alice
I have giant feet too. I wear a size 11 and I’ve never run out of STR. They tend to include a huge amount of yarn, so there’s always a good deal of leftover. Having said that, there’s always a small possibility and it’s not unheard of that people run out. I agree with Alice. In the past, people who have finished their socks will often post a message on the blog offering up their extras. Best of luck!
Thanks! I am encouraged by the friendliness of all the posts I’ve read. Happy to be a part of RSC
I also have size 11 feet and they are fairly wide as well. I have always had a fair amount left over after knitting the club patterns. So go ahead and knit away! Good luck, Emily
I decided to make the large for my daughter who wears a 10 and her foot is wide. I assumed the pattern was a womens’s s/m/l. I don’t have her measurements.I have made her many pair of basic socks in the past and they fit. Just wondering if anyone else is making the large.
I’m making the large size and I wear size 9.5/10 shoes. So far they’re looking good (I’m at 2nd half of the heel of sock 1). I have noticed that my stripy sections are much thicker than those in the picture, so I assume the pic shows the small size. I like they way it looks though.
I ended up changing to size 0 (2.0 mm) needles so that my stripes would look like the picture. The socks look great and are a little tighter, but certainly wearable. Unfortunately, if your feet are larger than mine I think it would be difficult to get the stripe pattern in the picture. I’m curious to know if anyone with large feet had success.
penelope- the yarn “blooms” after washing…so the sock will be a tad looser. sounds like you will be fine. i know at least one person knitting a large was able to get stripes.
I am knitting the size large socks and am at the point where I turn the heel..Here is my question. I put 43 stitches on one needle for the heel. Knit across 38 stitches then wrap and turn. The nexr row is purl across 42. How can I purl across 42 when I only knit across 38 in the first row?
I am probably missing some part of the equation here. HELP!!

you are “borrowing” sts from the instep for the heel. at this point, you will need to rearrange the sts. there are a couple of threads from jan 26th and 27th about the heel. one is called “heel trouble” and i think the other is “heel help”.
you might want to check those out.
“heel trouble” thread is jan 27th…
“heel help” thread is jan 30th.
