Camp Crows Feet | January 31, 2008
This started over on Ravelry but I think it needs to be here too. There are at least 6 people interested in doing a yarn crawl either on the way to camp or on the way home. I’m planning on getting to Seattle early and scoping out the possibilities and maybe getting a route planned out. My current plan is to pick up my riders at the airport on Saturday and head out on the crawl as early as possible. I’d like to include Churchmouse Yarns(?) on the crawl if possible and I’ve heard many good things about Weaving Works. If anybody has any other suggestions please leave a comment. If you’d like to join this merry band, leave a comment. If you have a preference for before or after camp please leave that comment too. We may have access to a small school bus for this un-sponsored activity. I do need to be in Friday Harbor Sunday night as that is where I have reservations. A trip to the local alpaca farm is in the works for either Sunday or Monday morning. Looking forward to the adventure. Happy Knitting, Alice

Just in case - me me!
yarn crawl before would be great, I may have to fly out sunday right after camp. Oooh i’ve heard so much about Churchmouse would love to visit it!
I’ve also heard a lot about Churchmouse and would love to see it in person.
I’ll be arriving the Thursday before sock camp and I’ll be around Seattle the weekend before. I’m flying out on Sunday after camp, however.
Count me in, too, if the crawl will be before camp. I’ll probably fly into Seattle late on Friday, and out failry early in the day on Sunday.
I’d like to join you, I will be driving up from Oregon. Was going to do so on Sunday, but could drive up earlier. Nothing planned for before camp, busy after.
missmalice and Stariel I counted you as part of the 6 from Ravelry. Glad you responded here as well. I’m thinking Saturday/Sunday before will be the better choice but we’ll need to remember to save room/$ for all that yarny goodness at Camp. Waiting for others to check in here. Now off to check Ravelry and do some knitting while I wait for it to load. #$#@W^ dial-up connection. Happy Knitting, Alice
I’m sure if we help each other to remember the BMFA yarny goodness we should be okay? hee hee. Off to bed now.
I love “So Much Yarn” in Belltown. Can’t say that I like Weaving Works at all. People are kinda rude and unhelpful. I’ve heard good things about Tricote over in the Arboretum.
Yes Tricoter is one of the stores that stocks blue moon. If you include it I can tell them and churchmouse to expect you that weekend.
I didn’t knit much when I lived in Seattle so my experience is always from going back.
I’ve been to Weaving Works and liked it a lot - they have a good selection of spinning supplies and some stuff for natural dyeing which is pretty cool.
Tricoter is the first Seattle yarn store I went to and bought my first STR (aw!) and it’s nice too.
And I liked Hilltop when I went there.
I think So Much Yarn is the one that’s downtown just a bit of a walk from the market - it’s nice too!
And then there’s Little Knits which is not *actually* a store but I went there one time which was pretty cool.
And Village Yarn & Tea in Shoreline, I’ve only been there once…
And I would definitely like to go to Churchmouse since I haven’t made it out there yet.
On the current list of most likely stops beyond Churchmouse are:
Hilltop
Tricorter
Weaving Works
Acorn Street
So Much Yarn is on the way to the others as is a shop called Bad Woman Yarn. The Fiber Gallery is a bit further north but in the same general area.
There is also Sweaters By Design that is south of SeaTac that may be a good place to start if we have an “early” group and then another group arriving later. Negotiations are still ongoing about using the bus but it looks likely that it will be available for the Saturday yarn crawl. We can also convoy and carpool from various spots. The NSK bus won’t be heading north to sock camp until Monday so Sunday is open for your own ideas like the Space Needle etc etc. Of the shops above only Tricoter is closed Sunday. Hope this helps with everyone’s travel and visiting family and friends plans. More later, Happy Knitting, Alice
When I yarn crawled last year after camp, I went to Weaving Works, Acorn Street, So Much Yarn, and Hilltop. I had no problems buying yarn at all them.
I unfortunately didn’t make it to Tricoter, though I wanted to — the DH cut me off (I had to ship my newly acquired stash home as it was). Weaving Works had the biggest selection of sock yarns (but no STR). I liked the way Acorn Street displayed their yarns the most — tall shelves just packed with yarn and organized mostly by weight, very neat. And Hilltop was just cool because it’s in a older Bungalow (I enjoyed seeing the house as much as the yarn), and the street had other great offerings for food. So Much Yarn was nice too, especially the woman who was working there when I went in, very helpful.
I’d love to crawl with you guys, but my budget is tighter this year and I’ve already made plans to visit with a good friend from college the weekend before camp. Oh, be sure to go to Top Pot — AWESOME doughnuts!!! Have fun!
Although I’m not on one of the lucky ones headed to sock camp…I AM one of the lucky ones living in Seattle…and I just want to add a plug for my LYS Village Yarn and Tea! It’s a great shop plus you can get a lovely cup of tea and goodies while there too! Staff are incredibly nice and giving and lots of great yarn and accessories. It’s just off I-5 in Shoreline. I’ll be anxious to hear all the camp and “crawl” stories.
Is there room for one more knitter for yarn crawling before camp? I arrive at the Seattle airport at around 8:30 a.m.
How can I join in? I’d LOVE yarn and I LOVE yarhshops!
Sure you can join the yarn crawl but what day are you arriving? I’m pretty sure Nederlass and the bus will be making a stop at SeaTac before heading north on Monday so she’ll have to let you know about Monday space. The Pre-camp yarn crawl on Saturday I don’t see heading out much before noon from SeaTac. I do hope to pick up some of those early Saturday arrivals and checking out a shop that is close to SeaTac but not on the “full list” of shops then making another stop at SeaTac before heading out on the big crawl. That way the early ones don’t have to sit around at the airport waiting for the later arrivals. Happy Knitting, Alice
I posted this on Ravelry yesterday and wanted to be sure anyone interested, but not on Ravelry saw it too.
If you need a ride pm me or email sam@limenviolet.com. Please let me know when you are arriving and departing (or your best guess) and let me know if you think you’ll have more then one average size bag (gotta allow for all the yarn, we wouldn’t want to leave any behind).
If you can offer a ride to anyone let me know when you are planning on leaving and how many extra seats you have.
I’ll do my best to match everybody up. Now we just need flags with NSK on them to fly from all the vehicles.
Nederlass can you send me a list of the ladies already signed up for the bus so I’m sure to include them? As far as finding it, I have been to the ferry a time or two, but never on the island. I have a GPS though so we should be good.
Darn, I just found the blog with all this wonderful information (I don’t know where my head has been, I have been sick for the past 2 months with the flu and on and on because of the flu) and now I am finding out all these neat things. I signed up for the camp with the encouragement of my husband 2 weeks about finding out about it and made my reservation for the resort at the same time! But dumby me didn’t check things out and I have made my plane reservations the first of Feb to come in at 11 am on Monday, I wanted to come in early but was trying to watch money! I come in Monday at 11am but now I have been told that I might not make it out to the resort until 6 pm because of the long ride on the shuttle and ferry! If I would have known that I would have come in on Sunday! I just hope I don’t miss out too much until I get there on Monday. I can’t change my flight again! I don’t leave Seattle until Sunday at 10am ! I was going to leave on Saturday but one of my husband’s friends who lived in WA and one that was stationed in WA told me that I wouldn’t make the ferry back on Saturday to catch my flight at 1 pm( they told me I just had to take the ferry because of the view even though it takes awhile to travel)so I had to change the flight to leave at 10am on Sunday! I asked about taking a sea plane but was told I wouldn’t be able to take much on the plane so the shuttle and ferry was my only other choice. When I changed my flight coming home it ended up costing abit to change the flight if I knew what I knew now I would have changed my flight coming in! Gee I wish I knew people where coming in early (Stupid me for not finding out about this site)! This is my first time going to the camp and I am excite! Oh well one day at a time.
Here’s the latest on the Pre-camp yarn crawl and post-crawl plans.
I’d like as many as possible who are coming in Friday night to stay at the same hotel near Sea-Tac. 2 suggestions are the Hilton Garden Inn and Comfort Inn. I don’t have rates for Hilton but Comfort Inn is listed as $99-275. Both have airport shuttles and Internet access. Comfort Inn lists breakfast Hilton doesn’t. I’m hoping we can share rooms and start the “party” early. Saturday is yarn crawl day with the NSK shorty bus picking us up at the hotel and collecting a couple more from Sea-Tac that are arriving that morning. 14 happy campers and I don’t know how many yarn shops. I definitely have Tricoter and Churchmouse as beginning and ending stops. What happens in between is up to the whims of knitters and traffic. I know Nederlass lives down near Sea-Tac so we’ll probably be dropped back there or back at the hotel after the crawl. I’ll be picking up a van at Sea-Tac and have 7 people joining me for the post-crawl sleepover at Roche Harbor. I have plans to spend Saturday night on the north side of Seattle so we can maybe visit a shop or two that we have to pass up on Saturday. Then it’s north to Antecortes and the ferry to Friday Harbor. Monday morning is for alpaca farm visits and another yarn shop. Lunch and then the ferry over to Orcas and the beginning of camp proper. Hope this helps everyone know what’s going on in this devious little head. Happy homework knitting, Alice
P.S. Hey Tina could you let Tricoter and Churchmouse know we’re coming? Give them some kind of warning that 15 crazed knitters will be descending on them on Saturday the 12th? Tricoter should be hit near noon or a bit after and Churchmouse will be invaded around the time the 4:30 ferry arrives.
