Notorious Sock Knitters | February 01, 2008
OK………So here goes. I am a newbie to the RSC so I may not be following the rules regarding blogging (new to that too) but I finished the first sock today.
I wear a sz 7 shoe and have an average foot with a somewhat high instep. Scrawny ankles and thin calves. I knit them from the top down with 2 circs and tried them on as I went to determine when to start the toe decreases. I knit with the recommended needles and found that my gauge was correct. The stripes turned out well and the lace pattern shows up nicely. I would like to pass on a photo but do not know exactly how to do that in this setting. I think there will be more on this later.
How are everyone else’s going? Also as a new member what is the schedule of socks? Do I have to knit like a wild woman to keep up? This is fun.

Hi Robin, Robin from MA here. Last year people who new how to use digital cameras put photos up under the WARNING SPOILAGE categories. I loved to look at them. I actually just bought a digital camera so I could learn to put pictures up also. Not that I have ever been able to keep up with everyone. I just go at my own pace. There is no pressure here, ever. I love being involved with RSC, I hope you will be too!
Hello all. I’m also a newbie, and not very techno savy. It took me
two trys to figure out how to log-in. Let’s hope I can do it again!
I’m impressed at those good folk who have already started their socks.
My hank is sitting across from my work area so that I might look at
it and take pleasure in its beauty. Maybe, just maybe, when I finish
the socks I’m currently knitting I’ll wind this babe into a ball.
‘Til then it looks so lovely. My mind mixes and matches it with yarn
from the sock stash. It is so much fun to decide what I will do with
Dragon yarn. Happy Losar everyone (Tibetan New Year). Carole
I’ve also finished sock #1. Since Dragons are magical creatures, I think the yarn has cast some sort of spell on me. I can’t knit on anything else (and I DO have plenty of other projects that need my attention). I CO for sock #2 as well. I’m doing the medium size - the stripes are a bit wide & sock #2 isn’t going to match perfectly. I was in too much of a rush to CO so I can finish the pair this weekend. I am so excited!
I’d wait a bit longer before actually posting a photo here on the blog. Some of our out of country members are still waiting for kits to arrive and we are trying to avoid “spoilage” here. However if you know how to use Flickr to post photos and know how to link to said photos (see Blog Help) that everyone would love! That puts a “cover” over the photo so those who don’t want the kit spoiled can not follow the link and those who want to see your finished work can easily find your photos fast. This would be a good policy to follow with all kit contents photos until about a month has passed (or should this be past?) from the current kit shipment is announced by BMFA. There is also a way on Flickr to put a spoilage warning cover on a group of photos so you avoid creating spoilage for folks visiting via Ravelry. Being on dial-up I don’t have time to do a lot of research on this (photos take forever to download so a link here is a blessing while the actual photos are a curse (but do give me knitting time)) so I hope someone else who knows how this is done will speak up here. Happy Knitting all, Alice
Way to go Robin and Heather! Yes we definitely want to see photos. Unfortunately I am not any better than Alice with the whole photo thing. There is help in the blog help pages and we do have Susie who will give us guidance.
The usual wait time on posting pics is two weeks after the domestic ones have gone out.
Flickr is a great solution for the interim period. I will check to day to make sure the photo section on the blog help pages covers all this is and if not add what is needed for Flickr.
I also am waiting to post barn shots of the packing of boxes and what it looks like with one color everywhere.
knit on!
Is there a group pool for 2008 on Flickr, or do we continue using the Rockin Sock Club 2007 group? There are no pictures of Dragons on the 2007 group pool……..
Don’t want to miss all the gorgeous pictures!
I do not think that there is.
Alice do you know??
