Announcements, January Kit Questions | February 04, 2008
that everyone follows suit and comments to when they are done. Kind of like the, “It is here” one. So it singles out who finished first ( kudos to them) and gives us a chance to chat a little easier about our accomplishments… .I am going to make killerhamster’s post sticky ( she is the first one I saw) and we can all comment there when we are done. It is right below this post. I hope this works for everyone.I cannot believe that some are done already. Seems like they just went out.I am impatiently waiting for most to get their’s so I can post production shots.Hey, guess what I am doing this week??New colorways!! yeah, my head is so very full, I have to get them out on yarn or it is going to explode.–look for a contest soon!knit on!

congrats! I have the first sock finished and the cuff done on the second. I had hoped to knit while watching superbowl yesterday but had company over and hubby stole my chair i like to knit in…so watched the game but wasted time! Congrats to you again!
It caught my imagination. I imagine there will be many more serendipity socks in my future. I don’t think I’ve ever knit a pair of socks this quickly in my life.
Mine are finished as well! I finished Thursday night at about 11 pm- Love them- love the color! Wore them to work on Friday. This was my first pair of top down socks- I ususally work toe up. I dont ussually work this fast but I am on a sock Jag!!!! Can’t wait for the next shipment!!!!
Holey Moley! You girls are FAST! I just wound mine up this weekend! I look forward to starting them later this week. Hope everyone had a great time on “Sock Knitting Superbowl Sunday” It is nice to knit during the game to catch all the cool commercials!
Done with both as well. I just got all wrapped up in the stripes and color and went crazy knitting. Am going to get one of Anne McCaffrey’s books about my dragon to fill the time waiting for the next sock kit. But……I think I will take out the toe of the first sock and start the decreases a little earlier as the sock is a bit long. So maybe I am not really done yet. Ha Ha

All finished here! I’ve never finished a pair of socks so quickly! CO 1/29 - Finished today; 2/4. Love, love, love the socks & was happy to learn how to do a short-row heel. They will take their maiden voyage on my feet on Chinese New Year day! Bring on kit #2! :0)
I’m all finished too! I finished on Sunday morning. I knit these socks in about a week, which is pretty quick for me, but I was so excited by the color and the pattern that I didn’t knit on anything else all week. My favorite part? The heel!
Finished mine on the 3rd. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! We Sockateers are under an extreme amount of pressure you know. We will be at Stitches West and we know that people will be looking at our socks way before they look at our faces!

i can’t believe you people have finished your socks already! i just wound my yarn into a ball. and i have a bit of a swatch done. i’m so behind! this is how you earn a low GPA in sock knitting, folks.
I finished mine last night. Love them!! The colorway…the pattern… just fabulous!
Yesterday I was showing my work-in-progess to some co-workers and got requests to make some for them.
Oooooh, Tina’s dying! Now THAT is exciting to hear! Hope your hands are nice and colorful-I know you are creating some wonderful colorways for us! I can hardly wait to see what you are working on!
New colorways? That would be amazing. So, new colors and hopefully bringing back some of the resting colors? I can hear my credit card crying and my stash singing!
finished mine yesterday. But not happy w/ my short rows or the fit. I may have to redo to do justice to the color and pattern. Also to hold myself over until March!

I’m a complete slacker! I should be casting on this weekend… I hope. =) I’m trying to finish knitting for my cousin’s baby shower on the 23rd and just started a baby dress… uh oh. Better knit all weekend!
Finished mine last night! I LOVE the way they fit. The heel was an adventure, and I like it. The star toe is beautiful. I’m so happy with these socks, but I’m going to wait until Valentine’s day to wear them
It’s nice to know I’m not alone in balling my skein or casting on!!! Life is so very busy this time of year with kids & swim meets. I still need to finish my last project & don’t want to start this new sock at a swim meet cause I’m think’n I’ll need to concentrate on the pattern…….
Well, I finished getting my yarn wound into a ball last night!! I’m going to cast on now! PS. What needles have you been ending up using? DPNs or circs and what sizes… just curious. I’m about to do my gauge swatch myself.
I’m knitting my socks with 1.75 mm (US#00) circular with magic loop. I made Welsh heel to my socks because short row heel didn’t fit well enough. I have to knit less than two pattern repeats and toe to finish my socks, both of them are on the same circular.
I finished my socks on Saturday, Feb. 9 and they look awesome. I have to keep checking where I have put that I have finished my socks…Ravelry, Ravelry Forum….make sure that I’m not doubling up. LOL
I finished last week. I just love the striping and the color. The heel is amazing, too and I think I’ll use it again.

Mine are done! This was a new heel and toe for me and I love them so very, very much. The fit is just perfect for my high instep and the star point seem custom made for my toes. This pattern knit up super quickly for me too, and I am tempted to cast it right on for a second pair of serendipity socks.
I made the cuffs longer, so they will fit inside the boots I wear to work (which is where all my hand knit socks are worn.)
The only thing I don’t love about them is the striping (ok, pooling) on the second sock. I knit a size medium on size 2’s, becuase there was same color pooling front/back for me on the size large on 1’s. I was happy with the first sock, which has a fat slow spiral from top to toe. The second sock has a fatter, slower spiral on the cuff, and after I knit the heel, the striping just went wonky and I wound up with several inches of red on the sole with light and dark only on the top. I fixed it my knitting quite tightly for a few rounds, but I’m not really sure what happened between sock #1 and sock #2. I’ve never had a finished pair come out so mismatched before. I used the same needles, but I usually do 2on2. I chose to magic loop these 1 at a time. The same needle was used, so I must have been either more (or less) stressed out to change my tension so between the two. :lol
Overall though, the fit and feel of the sock outweighs the pooling for me. And that will be hidden in my boot anyway. So far, so good, on my goal of knitting each club shipment as it comes and before the next arrives.
Wooohooo! I finally finished on Tuesday, just before leaving on a trip so I could bring them with me and show them off. YAY! Great pattern!
finished last night, got behind due to school conferences and the flu! They fit , look great and I am waiting for them to dry so I can wear them tomorrow to school. The pattern was great, easy to follow and memorize. Thanks for the great yarn and pattern.
I finished mine last Friday and my feet are enjoying them today. Those were such a fast knit! I’ve never had a successful short row heel before, but I’ve always been instructed to pick up and knit the wraps. Amazing! I love that heel. I’ve used it three more times already!
I finished mine on Valentine’s Day! I love the pattern and will use it again.
Finished my socks and really enjoyed learning the short row heel. I think it is a little too deep for my narrow foot. I think I read that leaving more stitches unwrapped would correct that problem Is that the way to go? I will try leaving 13 stitches next time. The toe is a lot easier than weaving. Thanks for all the new ways to knit a sock. Can’t wait for next month!

if the heel is too deep, you can also start with fewer sts. you can probably go with 33 next time and leave the same 9 unwrapped sts…if the heel wasn’t too pointy for you.
people use 50%-60% of the sts for the short row heel depending on how shallow or deep you need the heel.
What a fast knit!! I hesitated to knit the pattern as I was not getting the striping shown, no matter what I did (several attempts)!! However, since the pattern is called Serendipity–I decided to have another go to see what happened. The patterning curls around my foot and with the lace pattern looks like dragon scales–very much like a dragon’s tail cradling my foot. Along with the fact that my favorite color is RED, these could be my new “power” socks.
I finished!!!
It took me two weeks to finish the first sock, and three days to finish the second. *chuckle*

Finished at Stitches West Friday nite–had a blast–Sockateers busy selling yarn and cheering for finished socks–yeah!! Hot Flash should finally be feeling that cool breeze she wanted.
I am finished as well!!!! Cannot wait for the next kit.

Was done a couple of weeks ago, they are so comfortable and look great, can’t wait for the next one.
Finished them yesterday. They are very comfortable and I’ll use the pattern again with a few modifications to the heel. Once again ladies, you picked a winner. I’m looking forward to the next package.
well, i pushed through the east coast version of the plague (i mean really! 12 weeks of a cold?), 2 back-to-back business trips, and a crazy schedule at work…
and they are done! and oh-so-cute. and the bright color is perfect for getting me through the never ending winter.
now, its march. and i’ll begin to obsessively bug the poor receptionist at work for the next shipment! can’t wait!
Yea! I finished yesterday. It would have been earlier, but an Isabella tank and a Koolhaas hat got in the way.
The pattern was so fun that I added an extra repeat to the leg and I was forced to work on my short-row technique.
What a great introduction to the club!

I just finished mine today. I absolutely love this pattern. The socks (small size) fit me perfectly. I’m thinking about doing another pair in a different color (Lunasea)
Now I’m waiting for the March shipment!
I finished mine last night. I had trouble doing the short row heels over and over…this is the first time I have attempted that type of heel. I liked the pattern and am looking forward to the next Rockin package.
I finished mine last night - the heel doesn’t fit quite right, but I think I’ll be able to block them out. I loved the color and the pattern, though! Just a couple more weeks until the next one….
I got mine finished last Thursday and I love them! They fit so well and the color is great. It was my first short row heel and I was worried that it wouldn’t fit right, but it did. Yay!!
I finished my Serendipitys last week, just in time for the next one to be mailed out.

Sock Photos
Many of us are not members of Ravelry, and therefore cannot see the pictures that are being posted there. Flickr is a photo site that is accessible by anyone. So how about a Rockin’ Sock Club 2008 Flickr site again this year? Can someone set that up? I’d like to see all of your great lookin’ socks!ETA by Blog Mom Alice: This is the place to post your links and pictures. Looking forward to seeing some beautiful FO’s.

Why not just get on Ravelry? You don’t have to do all the extra stuff like post your whole stash and join 100 groups if you dont’ want to, just join the Socks that Rawk group. It only takes a few days to get on now. They don’t charge you money.

I choose size medium and I have US 6 feet (if I remember correctly European size is 37). I made Welsh heel to my socks so they might look little bit different. it is quite hard to get colours right in winter time.

I have a narrow size nine foot and made the following modifications to the size medium pattern. I used the instructions for the small heel and went down a needle size and I also knit and extra pattern repeat on the leg to make them longer. The fit is great and I have enough yarn left over for darning.
