I finished the heel and it looks very very triangular to me. I’ve never knitted a pair that looks so triangular so I am wondering if I did something wrong. Is this the shape everyone else is getting? (I am at the point where you are about to start the foot. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I freaked out a bit as well but once you start knitting again it will take shape. This was my first time turning a heel in this manner, now that i’ve finished one i can say i liked the technique…but had to take faith as i was knitting it for sure! lol
i have never knitted a heel like this either. when i was knitting it looked deformed but it fits really well. i put a reinforcing thread in to make it stronger as i am rough on heels. i just kept going and hoped that it all worked out and it did!
Thanks, I do like the technique, it just was a bit of a shocker to see how it looked. I’m glad to know that it fits really well.
I had to rip out my first attempt last night - one side had more stitches than the other! Started again, and now it looks more even.
But HOW did everyone get their yarn to stripe so nicely? Mine have blobs of the striping, and while it looks cool (and my gauge is correct), I wonder how this happened?
I just logged on to see if I could see some pictures of the heel since it looked so wrong to me…glad to find out I just have to go the distance! Other socks I’ve knit have used the pick up stitches.
There was a post on Ravelry which suggested doing the heel leaving 13 unwrapped stitches (for the large size) instead of 9. I ripped back, did that and the heel fits me much less pointily than with the smaller number. I don’t have particularly wide feet but my heel seems fairly round at the back.
I have done this heel before but with more stitches in the middle…after doing it per instructions & getting a pointy heel, i redid it with 13 sitched in the middle instead of 9…looks great.
