It’s Show time!

Announcements, Notorious Sock Knitters | February 13, 2008
By Tina

We are off to Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat. Today it is off to Tacoma and set up the booth. (my favorite part, ha )

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and yes Sunday too, it is fiber full . The marketplace is open to all. So even if you are not taking classes you can come and play. We would love to see you, please drop by and say hi! Gail the Sockateers and I will be there. Bring your socks!

And then… the Sockateers will be running the booth at Stitches, the 21st through the 24th. A massive amount of sock yarn and three outrageously fun woman. What more could you ask for? On Saturday night there will be a gathering at Purlescence for purchase sharing and well sharing.

Side note; we are still working on making the blog easier to navigate. So look for those changes soon, along with the first contest.

By the way the pics I have seen of the socks so far are really quite lovely! I am quite amazed how how fast you were done.

I am a little sad that my longest sock by the most people was not a huge hit. Oh well :(

what can you do?

knit on!

I thought the longest sock by the most people would have been a really fun exciting project. (For the record)

You are a color seer, Tina, but you don’t know all that is in the hands of sneaky knitters.
Be careful what you wish for….

It’s all a nefarious plot to get us to move to Oregon to be closer to the source of all things BMFA. Maybe next year I can do Madrona and Sock Camp and Oregon Fleece & Fiber etc etc etc.*sigh* guess I’ll just have to make do with one whee of a Pre-camp yarn crawl. Happy Knitting, Alice

Hmmm…a nefarious plot by sneaky knitters on an unsuspecting subject!!! Heart it!

Guess I missed the original thread, but there is a coffee house in Poulsbo that is working on the world’s record for longest scarf. People just drop by and knit, and soon this thing is going to outgrow the little shop. Goes to show anything is possible.

I never said so…but i’m in for the big bad sock!!!!
reconsider tina!!!

Maybe not a longest sock, Dear Tina, but one never knows what ideas Sneaky Knitters take from your Dyers Notes! A Secret Conspiracy could be underway as we write…one never knows! ;)

As for your longest sock idea, Tina-take heart-I think it COULD work! Care to send some yarn we could start circulating?

Who knows what evil I mean sneakiness lurks in the hearts of knitters?

I love the idea of the longest sock by the most knitters around the world! I bet you could get plenty of people to sign up to do it! :) I know I would be so up for it!!! :)

Hi there - so how many car loads of newly dyed yarn went North to Tacoma and other stops? Sounds like it was lots of four a.m. mornings of turkey basters(sp)

On February 15th, 2008 at 9:13 am Tina said:

ok, sold. who wants to help organize this longest sock/most knitters thing Leslie!!

we still have yarn here in tacoma!

On February 15th, 2008 at 10:07 am Johanna said:

Tina, and everyone - there is already a “biggest sock knit by the most people” Guiness world record attempt going on. It started in England and is touring the world. It is currently in New Hamburg, Ontario, for “Sock Month” at a great little shop called Shall We Knit.

Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSThDew_ll0

I can’t seem to find the original “home page” for this and it was out of date anyway, but it is an ongoing effort.

On February 15th, 2008 at 11:07 am Leslie said:

Of course I can organize this, Tina! I even have a few RSClubbers around my-2 I work with-who I’m sure will put in their “6 Rows”! And we can go from there. Send me the skein, I will donate the needles! We don’t necessarily have to go for a Guiness Book of World Records, just a fun Rockin’ Sock Club project for the year, maybe? Or each new year we can change the texture or something? I have a feeling Alice will be willing to help me work this out. I can start a thread on this, if you give me the “go ahead”!

On February 15th, 2008 at 11:08 am Leslie said:

I just viewed Johanna’s link and it is for the “biggest sock”, so maybe ours could still be the ‘Longest Sock”…never know!

On February 15th, 2008 at 11:26 am Tan said:

Maybe I should wait for your new thread, Leslie, but I have a mill end skein of mediumweight that I would be happy to use to knit a toe with and then send it on to you. With that bar of Chuao we were talking about . . .

On February 15th, 2008 at 3:37 pm Nartian said:

Just a thought, but how about making it the longest travelling sock and the socketeers can keep it at the BMFA booth at all the shows/events? There should be lots of knitters willing to knit a row or several while they wait in line or hang out at the booth.

- Witness to the Secret Conspiracy ;)

On February 15th, 2008 at 6:48 pm Leslie said:

Yeah-*if* there *were* a said conspiracy at hand, Nartian would have to know about it cuz she sees me almost every day (work day, that is!) Hmmm…about that longest travelling sock, there could always be TWO…one-the longest travelling and the other the longest bounced-around club members!

And Tan-thanks for the offer-you must know that toe-ups are not my fav!-lol! But I was willing!-lol! But since you are offering, I can’t turn you down! And yes, it would be a lovely accompaniment to that Chuao we were talking about, so the timing would be great! Yummy! I say, let us go forth and knit a long rockin’ sock that rocks! I kinda liked the idea of it being club members. So maybe we can do it as a separate one for our club? And maybe the Sockateers can start one at the booth?

Ok, guess I’ll post about the longest sock project(s) and get a bit more feedback!

On February 15th, 2008 at 6:59 pm Leslie said:

Oh-I do see that it is “Longest sock by the most people”, so maybe Nartian knows best! So maybe if you get the toe to me before Stitches West, Tan, then I can pass it on to the Sockateers on Friday. If not, no biggie. And we will go from there.

We’s devious little k’nitters aren’t we? Let me know what I can do. I’m shut out from Ravelry right now because where I am doesn’t allow access. Don’t know exactly why. Happy Knitting, Alice

Somehow I knew you wouldn’t mind assisting with the Longest Sock project, Alice! I’ll be in touch with you and we can knock out some ideas. The best idea may be to keep it the simplest!

I’m hoping to be at the festival on Sunday. I hope you still have some stuff left. We’ve been struck with pneumonia and I want to make sure that we aren’t going to spread it. I want to show off Ocean’s new pants that I knit in Backstabber. I need some Pond Scum for the embellishing. So, all you shoppers… leave something for me.

Tina, you and the girls are welcome to stop by the farm on your way home for some tea and camelid kisses.

I’m loving the longest sock idea.

On February 16th, 2008 at 6:17 pm RaeDean said:

There’s a couple thousand people just in the club, not counting how many others who attend festivals etc. Everyone could donate a section of their favorite colorway or even favorite club colorway. It could all work with just a few organizers in a few areas. Knitters will always find a way.

On February 17th, 2008 at 4:42 pm jusknittin@aol.com said:

What if we all signed up to participate and then it could be sent (like a chain letter) and we would all use some leftovers and then send it to the next person on the list! We could have both the longest and most travelled sock!

The Sockateers are here for whatever you want us to do (within reason)! We’d be happy to have the sock in the booth at Stitches! How fun………..

I would love to participate. It sounds fun!

Thank you for being at the Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat! I stopped by the booth and bought a couple skeins of medium-weight. I was so excited to learn that you were holding a booth in the area, since I was down in Seattle for work and Tacoma was just a half hour away. Whoo-hoo!!

and I would love to work on the worlds longest sock! I would love it even more if it took a donation to sign up that went to a charity.

Tracey - if you’re on Rav you’ll find a thread about the UK sock club members trying to organize a portion of the longest sock. I believe Tan is “talking” to Socktopus about this.
