Great reactions to socks!

Notorious Sock Knitters | March 01, 2008
By Sandra Watkins

I’m not done with mine yet, like so many here…but I have to tell you all about a conversation with my four year old last night. He REALLY wants a pair of these dragon socks. :) He asked me, “Are those Dragon socks, Mommy?” And I said “yes, baby, do you like them?”

He said “What are they made from?” And I asked him what he thought they were made of…..

His reply “Dragon Hair.”

That is too cute!! My 6 year old wants a pair too. He loves when Mommy knits socks for him. He won’t sleep all winter without knitted socks. I had to make him multiple pairs so that he would let me wash them! I may have to get another skein of “Dragon Dance ” to make some for him.

Too cute!

My 7 year old is practically begging for Dragon socks. He’s loved the yarn since the minute I opened the package.

My fiance’s reaction was that “You know, there might be a month when you get a shipment and I want you to knit them in my size.” of course I told him that would be fine, but he had to have it knit with the pattern that it came with. If he finds the pattern too “girly” then he’ll have to wait until I knit the pattern for me, and then we can order a second skein to make him something else in the same color.

In boy-speak I think this means that he thinks the Dragon Dance colorway is pretty cool.

It was one of the happiest days in my life when my son, who, as a child often scoffed at my knitting, asked me to make him socks for a birthday. Instead, I made him a sweater and we both cried when I gave it to him. Then I took him into a LYS and, what do you know? I banked my credit card on yarn for his next sweater. I think I will stick to socks.

Tina, I think you found a yarn for the male demographic. My husband and 9-year-old son, who both normally ignore my sock knitting, have also been swooning over this colorway. Sadly, Adrienne, they were not so enamoured of the lace pattern! There has yet to be a pink enough colorway (in the sock club at least) to even prick the interest of my 4-year-old daughter.

Thanks to both of you for all you do!

i would have thought that they would have “LOVED” my little lace stitch way more than “dragon dance” 8).

i, actually, am surprised that your guys love this color. my guys think it is too girly!

I think that the Dragon Dance has very strong appeal! As I posted earlier, when I opened my first shipment and saw the colors, it was as though someone had dyed the colors just for my new DIL! And timing couldn’t have been more perfect–she had just asked me to knit her socks! She LOVES the colorway but we did opt to use Stephanie’s basic sock recipe pattern since DIL isn’t one for lace of any sort! :) In fact, at their wedding, she didn’t wear a veil, just a tiara and her stunning dress was adorned with beading but no lace! So I’m saving Adrienne’s pattern for me! :) When I tried the socks on her (still on the needles of course) for fit, she was just giggling with anticipation!!! She can’t wait to wear them! I definitely have to share the stories though about the Dragon Hair socks!!!

That is sooo cute. My 7 & 5 year olds & I had a conversation along the lines of “….so, this Sock Club… which month do we get the parcel with the small person yarn/patterns in??” DD was scandalised that the club only appears to be for grown ups. I overheard them earlier chatting about how to split the next skein so that they get to wind an equal amount. Any chance for sibling rivalry in this house lol. The digital scales are to be used apparently.
I’m just hoping that I get January’s pair finished before March’s turn up!

Thanks a million! A perfect post for a Monday–it’s that chuckle that I’ll have throughout the week. I will never look at my socks without thinking about them as “dragon hair”.

The RSC (sigh), it’s not just for knitters.

My older Monkey has also been eyeing my Serendipity socks and wants me to knit her a pair. I may have to buy another skein before she mooches my pair that’s almost done despite the fact that it would be a little loose & long on her.

I think these socks will be a family affair - the more I knit them, the more I want a pair for me, and of course Tris is eagerly awaiting his dragon hair socks, but he also told me today that his next pair need to look like chicken feet. :)
Kids are so much fun!
