Best fitting sock

Notorious Sock Knitters | March 09, 2008

I wore my Salish Sea socks today.  I don’t know if it is the design, or if I have finally figured out how to accomodate for my loose gauge.  The tops do not slouch down.  They weren’t tight when I put them on, either.  Is it the mystery of Cat’s design?  I am anxious to see  if anyone else feels the same.  What was the best fitting sock for you in 07?

Only have one finished but that one does fit fine. Have to get the other one finished so I have them to wear on the ferry at camp. I can’t decide which one pair from last year fit best. They all work for me (or my mom-she got the Summer of Love Lace socks). I find Solstice Slip very comfy due to the shorter cuff and garter stitch heel and toe, but like Inside Out for it’s snugness. Never got Grasshoppers finished as Grasshoppers they became Jaywalkers and not my favorites. Lenore is a good fit in all ways but I’m loving the colors for Salish Sea, definitely my favorite colorway from 2007. That’s my recap. Happy Knitting, Alice

I still haven’t gotten around to the Salish Sea socks. Aargh! For me the best fitting pair was the Summer of Love Lace - they are also my most versatile pair and go best with most of my clothes and shoes.

I have, though, completed a pair from Cat Bordhi’s New Pathways book, and they ARE the best fitting socks I have made. I think the new ways she has come up with to handle increases and heels are just ingenious and make for a better fitting sock. If you want to see them I just posted pictures at my blog.

…the jury is still out…I got the foot of one Salish Sea sock done last night, and it’s too short (my fault, I know) so I had to rip it out down to the stockinette toe and will start over tonight. Sigh. The best fitting pair is probably the Solstice Slip–of the finished pairs, that is!

I wasn’t part of the club last year, but I’m very excited about being able to get the new sock yarn colours. I know that they get released to the general public after a year. My question is, is that a full year from the end of the 2007 club? Or a year after the club received the kit?
Anybody know?

If you follow Cat’s formula, this sock (and ALL of the socks from the new book) will fit perfectly! I am math challenged and even I could follow the directions. I think that the key is the rounds per inch. I LOVE Cat for this and can’t wait to see her again.

Liette I think its a year after we received the kit and remember they were shipped on the even months last year. Happy Knitting, Alice

I neglected to say that around the arch of the foot, that whole area is not the least bit saggy or stretched out. I ripped these out so many times that I probably could have knitted 2 pair with all the knitting I did. I was afraid that I was going wear out the yarn before I got them done. I absolutely love their fit! I had a devil of a time getting the whole row gauge thing. I need some remedial work on row gauge at camp.

The Salish socks are absolutely the best fitting socks I’ve ever done. I love them and wear them every chance I get. A couple of weeks ago I got the New Pathways book, and did one of her designs from the book - and voila! It fits just as well. I love love love both pairs. I’m a convert - I will knit patterns as they come, but my “own” knitting - will be Cat designs. There’s enough in New Pathways to keep me knitting for a very long time. :-)

Salish Socks Rock - I’m on to my second pair, but I have made both with a bamboo blend yarn. The one pair I saw made with the club kit yarn seemed stiff. I have made one pair from the book (at work now and don’t remember the pattern name) and they fit perfect too - don’t slide down my foot.

I haven’t gotten to the Salish Sea Socks yet or Lenore or Flower Power, but so far, I’d have to say the best fitting socks for me in RSC 2007 were the Monsoon Inside Out socks. I think I should have made my Solstice Slips a bit bigger because they are just a tad too snug, but I’d rather have them snug than roomy. And although the socks I made from Walking on the Wild Tide fit great, I didn’t use the Grasshopper pattern so I can’t count them.

The Serendipity sock fit great!
