Notorious Sock Knitters | March 26, 2008
On size 2 circs I am right on gauge. But the leg so far looks so big. Anyone else finding this? I am not trusting myself. I always seem to go down in needle and foot size (small for size 9 foot). But, being on gauge I just feel I’m missing something. Leg is wider than any socks in my drawer.

You might want to check out the earlier post titled “Sizing”. Also I’d trust the socks in my drawer.

P.S. I’d like to combine this with the “Sizing” post if that’s ok with Ann. So if others would leave comments for her on that post I’d really appreciate it. Thanks, Blog Mom Alice
Hi Ann,
I’m sorry you’re having problems with the sizing. I was the test knitter on these socks, so I will try to help you out.
Are you making the small size sock with 60 stitches? If you did a gauge swatch, you might want to recheck your gauge using the stockinette portion on the sock itself to see if it has changed, and adjust accordingly.
I have a feeling you might prefer the fit of a sock that has more negative ease. For that, you can either drop down to a 2.25 or 2.5 mm needle, or reduce the number of stitches to get the fit that is most comfortable for your own feet.
I hope something here has been helpful. Please feel free to email me via contacting a blog mom and put attn: Gail in the subject line and I would be happy to help you trouble shoot some more.
There’s been some discussion on Ravelry about the socks being large. I’m knitting small on size 2.25 and holding tightly. Tried it on after the heel and it does fit. I also suspect that you can reduce the number of stitches on the stockinette portion and make adjustments that way.
I started these socks also, and used a size 1 needle from the beginning, made the medium size, and they are huge. I am going to rip out and do the smallest size. I seem to have trouble with this yarn, it is bulkier than I usually knit socks with.
