March Kit Questions | March 27, 2008
I’ve reached the gusset increase, and it doesn’t seem to be working out for me. I’m knitting size small. According the the pattern, in gusset round 1, after knitting the 21 pattern stitches and the RLI, I need to knit to the last 29 stitches, then s1,k1 14 times, etc. This makes the leaf pattern off-center. UNLESS, the beginning of the row has moved? If so, I don’t see any mention of the start of the row moving. What am I missing??? Thanks!

Hi Ang,
There is some movement of the markers before starting the gusset increases across the instep, including a new beginning of the round marker. Check the bottom of page 3 and the top of page 4 for how they are moved around and see if that helps you get the pattern centered.
I hope that gets you back on track!

Have a look at the last paragraph in the “leg” section of the pattern. You move the beginning-of-round marker after transitioning from the rib, and before starting the main pattern. Does that help?
Okay, thanks y’all - I totally misread it, and was interpreting the start of the leaf pattern to be the new round beginning.
i moved the marker and I am having problems. i tried to center the slipped stitches but don’t come out with the right number of stitches. can someone help explain it a little further. maybe i placed the beginningin correctly
i have the 21 stitches in my leaf pattern and now the two that i just increased adn am ready to work to the K1 S1
how many do i need to count backwards for the start of my row. and how many do i knit before slipping, i tried to center it and my counts don’t match the instructions
help!

Teri, what size are you knitting?
For instance, for the small (after the two increases) you should have
Start of round) 6K M 21Pattern M 6K then 29Heel sts
M=marker
Make sure you start the heel with a slip, not the knit. You should also end with a slip.
bingo, just had the starting point wrong, which threw off my counts, pattern stitch was fine. the phrasing on the to last 29 stitches then confused me
thanks for the quick response
