Why to read the blog.

Camp Crows Feet, Notorious Sock Knitters | April 04, 2008
By Alice in the Heartland

You’re first to see Tina’s contests. You’re first to see what the designer has to say about the current pattern. And you get help from other loyal blog readers. That said I need you to know that this blog mom may not be following things very closely for the next couple of weeks. The obvious reason is I’m heading to sock camp. The not so obvious reason is the DH has landed himself back in the hospital with a fever of 105.6º. This is a record for him but similar has happened before and so it’s not an unusual event around our house. (Suppressed immune systems tend to react poorly to bugs and viruses.) After multiple antibiotics the fever is under 99º and things are following a path we’ve travelled a few times in the last couple of years. However I tend to stick close to him during these events and so won’t be paying much attention to on-line things. Hope everyone has a great time with Lucky. I’m still trying to get Serendipity to behave. I may change loyalties and go right on to Lucky. I did manage to get the last of last year’s yarns knit up before the #&*% hit the fan around here. Sometimes it makes for wonderful knitting time and others my brain takes a vacation and can only handle basic sock patterns (thank you Cat and Stephanie) Time to head back to the hospital, Happy Knitting, AliceP.S. Still looking forward to the yarn crawl and the alpaca farms :-D and a heavy dose of R&R with the sockateers and other campers.

Thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery! (when my DD was hospitalized for 12 days last June, sock knitting(and unknitting) was my sanity saver. i love those socks!) knit him to health!

Glad to hear that he’s doing a little better now, and I’ll keep you both in my thoughts.

Hi Alice,
I’m sorry to hear about DH, but glad to hear his fever is down.

Not to worry, I’ve got the blog mom action covered!

Take care.

Hi Alice,
I’m so sorry to hear your DH is sick again, but hope by now his fever is gone or lower. I know about being immuno-supressed and it can be scary.

Hope the DH is feeling much better by the time you leave for camp so you can really enjoy yourself without worrying too much about him. See you there! Lou

Update: DH is much better and hopefully coming home from the hospital later today. His immune system needs booster shots of IGG but tends to react poorly to the “cure”. More tests will hopefully determine how to help him “take his medicine”. I am so looking forward to camp and hope he stays healthy while I’m gone. I have lots of family (both mine and his) ready to step in and help. Gotta love that family. Happy Knitting and it looks like I will get to see folks at camp. Alice

Another update: Dr A talked to Dr B and I talked to the case manager. Between us we found particulars of DH’s first go round with IGG and now the Dr here wants another try at giving him a dose here. This means DH will still be in the hospital when I’m supposed to leave for sock camp. Fingers crossed that all goes smoothly and I don’t have to change my travel plans too much.

Keeping fingers and needles crossed and sending positive energy to you and your DH! We WILL see you at camp, period.

Hope treatment for your DH goes well and you will be able to do your yarn crawl. I am seriously thinking of joining you Sunday night in Roche Harbor - do you think I will need reservations? I am going to try for the 5:25pm ferry. I am not known for leaving home on time but as long as I don’t do too many long stops I’ll be fine.

Thanks to Demerol, Benadryl, and patience, DH made it through and is now home again. I forgot to prefill his pill box and his keys may be on the other side of the state and who knows what I’ve forgotten to bring but I’m now in Washington scouting locations for DD wedding in August and looking forward to the crawl on Saturday and the lazy day on Sunday before the whirlwind that is sock camp. Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I’m hoping everything stays calm at home for the next 10 days or so.

Virginia G I kinda doubt you’ll need to worry about reservations. We’d be happy to have you join us at Roche Harbor. It looks like a great place to spend a night.

Another reason to read the blog is that it is fun. I enjoy hearing what others think about the yarn and patterns. The advice is great. Since a few people referred to Ravelry I thought I would join that too. Not the best decision as it seems that it is full of negative remarks and attitudes. I knit to relax and chill out. I’m not interested in grumps. Just my opinion.

I haven’t seen the grumps on ravlery, but have to admit I don’t spend much time on it. I like to play with the tools for my own use and chat with some friends, but that’s about it. Seeing variations of the same project is one of my fav parts and of course seeing if other people have run in to trouble where I have. My best ravelry experience was a designer commenting on how she liked my project from her pattern.
