The Great Yarn Crawl to Camp Crows Feet

Camp Crows Feet, Notorious Sock Knitters | April 12, 2008
By Alice in the Heartland

Four of us gathered last night to begin the assembling of campers for the great pre-camp yarn crawl. Provided no flights are delayed we will be heading out around noon to terrorize yarn stores all over the greater Seattle area. First stop will be Weaving Works, then we may ooze on over to Acorn Street. Time will tell. After that it will be a scenic trip through the Arboretum to Tricorter. At anytime we may cut away and head to the ferry for our trip to Bainbridge Island and Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. There is word of Ice Cream being nearby so a pause may be in order. Dinner is to happen at Cafe Nola followed by a ferry trip back to Seattle ahead of the Mariners game letting out. Hopefully we’ll get a flickr page going so we can show you some of the stash enhancements that we make. More as comments later. Happy Knitting, Alice

The great yarn crawl is now history. We got to 3 shops and were treated like royalty. Weaving Works was our first stop and had all kinds of roving for the spinning nuts among us. All kinds of weaving supplies of course and some sock yarns from local producers. Next up was Acorn Street located near U Dub. (think about it). They had a wall of sock yarn and the most recent yarn made famous by Yarn Harlot - Kauni. I now have enough for my own sweater. We had to pass on Tricorter due to traffic in downtown Seattle.
The last stop came after a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island home of Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. Everyone should make a trip to this lovely yarn shop if they ever come to Seattle. Yes it takes a whole afternoon but it’s worth the trip just for the view. We had gorgeous weather. Clear skies, views of Mount Rainier and all the Cascade range to the east and the Olympic range to the west. Of course everyone and their neighbor was out and about as well. We ate dinner after the crawl at Cafe Nola near the yarn shop. Everyone had a treat bag at their seat courtesy of Churchmouse. It was absolutely the best meal I’ve had in a long time. There were 12 Notorious Sock Knitters join us on the grand tour. We rode in a small shorty school bus that had been painted and decorated in appropriate designs for the festivities. We had a great time and now to bed. Happy Knitting.
