We’re Back!!

Announcements, Camp Crows Feet | April 26, 2008
By Tina

Well almost. I will agree with Stephanie that Camp has a mortality rate. I think we will need to make “Sock Camp Survivor” buttons for next year.

It was seriously crazy fun and even my wildest dreams did not hold a candle to what we all created together. I might be the head instigator but the magic of camp involves every single person there. We are just a bunch of stitches in a great pattern, of course in Gauge! (sorry)

Here are a few of my favorite moments: ( click on photo to enlarge)

camp cops

I had not a clue that when I was sent to open the front door that this is what would greet me when I returned. “The Yarn Enforcers”
go with the flow swap

“Go with the flow swap” Where we played pass the TP cover to Cockeyed’s tale of hilarity enacted by Cat, Steph and Hot Flash.

cat and steph show 1 cat-and-steph2.jpgcatsteph3.jpg

Preformance Art at its absolute best. The infamous cockamamie chicken returns for yet another anatomy lesson from her creators Stephanie and Cat, the dynamic duo.

xtreme-tp-cover-art.jpg
The visual feast that was the camp homework. So creative and wonderful. I want a museum showing for these. Every single one was a work of art.

monkey-madness-begins.jpgserious-monkey-business.jpgmonkeys.jpg

Serious monkey madness.

class.jpgnot-tina-fault.jpg

Informative and entertaining classes where we learned all kinds of sock related goodness including exactly what is my fault and what is not.

knitting.jpg

Ahhhh, knitting!

sock-puppet-theatre.jpgsock-puppet-two.jpg

and of course wrapping things up with a little sock puppet theatre.

So much fun and still legal, amazing!!

It is taking me a wee bit longer to recover than I would have predicted. I apologize for taking so very long to get anything up here. I figure with all of everyone else’s posts you did get a taste of what was going down. We have a Flickr account that I will post the massive amount of pics on and also give you the info. so you can post yours also if you like. With all that we have together we could make quite a record of this experience.

To campers, counselors and staff . My heart is so very full and from there I thank you for every single moment.

Well its taken me at least the week to recover from camp! I can only imagine how long it will take you and the Sockateers to recover!! It was an absolutely fantastic week and I thank you again for letting me be a part of it! Sock camp survivor buttons sound like a great idea! And I’m so glad the “list” is now up! I will wait patiently for the “list” t-shirt or sticker :) hehehehe!!

I miss everyone but the pictures are fantastic and I can’t wait til next year!!

Just remember we decided the snow was Stephanie’s fault not Tina’s and having just off loaded my DD at the airport I can now work on recovering from camp so I’m a week late even trying to get it back together. Nice having her home though. I know some of the campers are already plotting when they can get together during the coming year (like MS&W, Stitches MW, and Reinbeck) and I’m already thinking about what pre and post camp activities we might pursue next year. Enjoying the new additions to the stash, Alice

No amount of Harlot’s blogging or Chickenknittle’s talking about last year’s Camp could have prepared me for the feast that was 2008 Sock Camp. Holy cow! (Or should I say, holy monkey?)

It was weird, it was fun, it was fantastic, it was both exhausting and exhilarating, it was a great learning experience, it was ‘way too much and yet not enough! More! Want more!

Can’t wait until next year’s festivities!

Now, Tina, you know it’s all your fault, don’t you? (heh heh heh)

I certainly do.

I wasn’t lucky enough to go — what fun that looks like!! Will you be sharing the mini sock monkey pattern? It is so absolutely adorable!! I’d love to give one a try myself….

Must be my memory going, or maybe the “Ghost of Alice” cocktails, but I don’t remember ANYTHING we learned about that was Tina’s fault!

(Other than the names of the colorways, I guess; those are probably Tina’s fault! I think it’s hilarious that we have a KAL going on Ravelry to knit Monkey Poop socks! [Monkey socks in the Kaw Kaw camp colorway).

This was the most fun that I remember having anytime in my adult life! Far exceeded my expectations. I feel like we were all part of something much bigger than just sock camp. It’s amazing that you can go somewhere remote with a bunch of people that you don’t know, from all walks of life, and connect with them. This was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much Tina and the Sockateers for making this such a great success. And the whole monkey experience, I can’t say enough about it! I am so glad that Friday was a giant S&B day, otherwise our monkeys would have been naked. Nothing quite so creative as a room full of knitters with time on their hands! Hats off to Blue Moon! When can I send my deposit for next year?

On April 27th, 2008 at 7:56 pm knitter@mac.com said:

Is there a link to the Ravelry KAL?

On April 27th, 2008 at 8:45 pm Cathy-Cate said:

Well, it’s just part of this lively thread here:
http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/socks-that-rawk/136944/251-275
start reading at post 267 then onward & upward!
(or downward or whatever; you know what I mean!) Those who weren’t at camp, Raven Clan Monkeys were suggested too, as an alternative. We don’t want anyone to feel left out and lonely.

Not that I can cast on a single ‘nother thing yet, nope, nope.
Not till I finish some of what’s on the needles, including Leafling. But when I do, some Monkey Poop Socks are definitely in order.

On April 27th, 2008 at 9:43 pm Tina said:

I love the monkey poop socks, too funny. Certainly in line with my intentions for this colorway. Cookie will love it.

So I was thinking of putting the Kaw Kaw colorway up soon. Unless there is a problem with campers on this. It seems to me it is a way to include those that could not be there that is pretty easy and well easy.

let me know your thoughts

good night!

We’ll share! I feel guilty when people ask about the Kaw Kaw yarn, given the Rare Gems, mill ends, Kaw Kaw and Knitters without Borders, among other lovely fiberly things that just arrived Friday in a big box from Washington (Thanks ever so much, Lisa, for mailing them for me!).
So it’s totally up to you, Tina, but I think we should share some of the Camp Crows Feet love & spirit whenever you’re ready for the deluge.

And BTW, all, I’m going to be doing something special with one of my two Knitters Without Borders skeins, see my blog tomorrow for details….

Yeah, the monkey thing was just a given. How could it not be insanely wonderous. I remember when I told the sockateers that I wanted to make sock monkeys on Camp craft day. It only took a few seconds and the lights just went off. And then cockeyed ran with it. It is so very wonderful working with women whose brains are as over twisted as mine.

We will be putting the Funky Monkey pattern, kit, Kaw Kaw, and Knitters without Borders all up on Wednesday.

Tina, there were a lot of male monkeys but only one male knitter. Did you get pictures of all the anatomically correct monkeys? That’s a shot I’d like to see.

I’m suffering post-camp blues! thanks for everything. Crazy lovely and hilarious. Can’t wait till the next one. Thanks Tina, Tammy, Etta Mae, Rosie, Hotflash & Cockeyed (have I missed any sockateers? I hope not!!) & all the counsellors. It was truly awesome.

And yay for Kaw-Kaw! I can’t wait to see all the monkey poo poo socks on the KAL.

I’m another one suffering post-Camp blues, mainly ’cause the laundry seems never ending and people at work are running around like chickens without their heads. But laundry & sucky work - NOT Tina’s fault.

All that fun? - totally Tina’s fault. Totally. :D

After everyone had had a chance to buy some Knitters Without Borders STR yarn at Camp, I picked up a second skein, and am about to give it away as one of several awesome prizes for a Blogiversary Raffle on my blog (I’m asking people to donate to Doctors without Borders, or Lou’s Knitters for Knockers team, or the House that Yarn Built). Each $5 donation earns a chance in the drawing May 12th! Sock Campers may not need another KWB skein or another signed copy of Steph’s book, but even they may want to check out the other prizes….

I had such a good time. It’s like a very vivid dream and when I wake up I’ll have another fun filled knitting day - not more laundry or cleaning - just more knitting. I think Tina’s got some new names for a color, Not Tina’s Fault or It’s Tina’s Fault. Oh what colors would that be! Thanks to everyone for all the fun.

Like others have said, sock camp is not for wimps! It took me a week and then some to recover - caught a cold - I was rundown from having an abundance of fun :o)

Thanks, Cathy-Cate for the promo of http://www.knittersforknockers.com!! We are soooooo close to our goal and I just know we can beat it.

I’m on for making Monkey Poop socks too but I will hold off casting on if I can until my Leaflings are done (1 done). And making big funky monkeys is or I hope is addicting because I’m going to attempt to make one for each of my nieces and nephews — that’s 9 monkeys!!!!!!!

On April 29th, 2008 at 6:11 pm JustJen said:

So far, I haven’t managed to get sick (thanks, Lou, for taking that on for me!) but DANG, making monkeys (and socks, and swatches) is a whole log funner than being back at work.

Miss you all, and oh! so glad there’s camp again next year!

All best,
JJ

I forgot to mention that *I* thought Tina, the BMFA staff, and the Sockateers looked remarkably refreshed and alert at the Yarn Harlot event in Portland, a mere three days after Sock Camp ended.

IF they were faking it and were still dead on their feet, I’d like to know their secret. (If they weren’t faking it and were actually that alert and perky, I’d REALLY like to know their secret!)

On April 29th, 2008 at 7:23 pm Tina said:

Then it would not be a secret would it Jen?

You should have seen me the next day after 2 hours sleep.

NOT a pretty sight I assure you. My biggest secret is that

my boss is a bitch and I am a wee bit scared of her. Oh no,

here she comes. gotta go!

Got Guilt - I LOVE that. Surely worthy of a colourway? Though I think Ghost of Alice would be darned cool too. Something wild and naughty. Maybe on a harley? Ciggie in one hand and martini glass in another. It seems she was quite the wild child.

(days later…) I’ve just survived four days of off-site training classes (dead butt!), have finished one Leafling, am half-way down the leg of the second (no orphan socks here, dangit!), and have more-or-less committed to monkey poop socks.

I would argue that that’s NUTHIN’ to getting stuff up on the web and May’s club packages out for a mere 2000-and-some [anxious|annoying|adoring] knitters.

You and your staff are still my heroes, Tina :-)
