I’m just getting started on Leafling, and on round 1 of the leg I get more than 27 sts, in fact I get 29 sts! Round 2 looks like 27. What am I missing?

The Great Yarn Crawl to Camp Crows Feet

Four of us gathered last night to begin the assembling of campers for the great pre-camp yarn crawl. Provided no flights are delayed we will be heading out around noon to terrorize yarn stores all over the greater Seattle area. First stop will be Weaving Works, then we may ooze on over to Acorn Street. Time will tell. After that it will be a scenic trip through the Arboretum to Tricorter. At anytime we may cut away and head to the ferry for our trip to Bainbridge Island and Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. There is word of Ice Cream being nearby so a pause may be in order. Dinner is to happen at Cafe Nola followed by a ferry trip back to Seattle ahead of the Mariners game letting out. Hopefully we’ll get a flickr page going so we can show you some of the stash enhancements that we make. More as comments later. Happy Knitting, Alice

Modified Toe

This is a modified toe that I made, with directions, pictures included.

When I got to about 2 3/4 inches from the end of the toe, I stopped adding more leaflets, and instead did this:

ending with a row 7, the next three rows, repeat row 8, then on the next row I started shaping the end of the leaf by (just over the pattern stitches) 
row 1: LLI, p1, k1, p1, ssk, k4, p1, k1, p1, k4, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, RLI, knit to end. 
row 2: Continue in pattern only now there are only 5 stitches over each side of the leaf. 
row 3: LLI, p1, k1, p1, k5, k3tog, k5, p1, k1, p1, RLI. 
row 4: Same as row 2 except only 1 p between sides of leaf.
row 5: LLI, p1, k1, p1, ssk, k3, p1, k3, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, RLI. 
row 6: Same as row 4, but only k3 on each side of leaflet. 
row 7: LLI, p1, k1, p1, ssk, k2, p1, k2, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, RLI 
row 8: Same as row 4 but with only k3 on each side of leaflet. 
row 9: Start the first toe shaping as per pattern, and at the same time LLI, p1, k1, p1, ssk, k1, p1, k1, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, RLI. 
row 10: Same as row 4 but only k2 on each side of leaflet. 
row 11: LLI, p1, k1, p1, ssk, p1, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, RLI. 
row 12: Same as row 4 but only k1 on each side of leaflet. 
row 13: LLI, p1, k1, p1, k3tog, p1, k1, p1, RLI. 
row 14: P3, k1, p3. 
row 15: LLI, p2tog, p1, k1, p1, p2tog, RLI. 
row 16: P5 
row 17: LLI, p2tog, k1, p2tog RLI. 
row 18: P3. 
row 19: LLI, k3tog, RLI. 
row 20: P1. 
Then continue to shape the toe per instructions.

Starting over….

Ok….I did it!! Now I feel better. It all started out with wanting to knit 2 socks on 2 circulars but I had to go out of town and I desperately wanted to take this yummy yarn with me to work on during travel.  I did not have time to divide it in half so I just started out as directed.  I made the medium and alas! it was too large so I went down to the small and I am not happy with the fit. My gauge was a tad off (28.5 sts/4 in) and I thought that would be OK.  It wasn’t.  So I made it all the way to the toe decrease and  when I tried the sock on it was too slouchy.  My ball winder is in action dividing the yarn so I can start where I wanted to in the first place.  I decided to try my new Hiya Hiya needles in size 1.5.  I can’t remember the mm sizing.  I will keep you all posted.  It tended to pool a little on the top and then on the foot.  So we’ll see what happens this time around.

Question about 2007 colors

If I was dying to get my hands on a skein of Firebird but I wasn’t in the club last year (I am this year, thank God!), is it against the rules to ask a member from last year if I could send them a PayPal payment or a money order to buy a skein for me?  I just don’t think I can wait until it’s available for everyone!
