Question about this month’s pattern

Notorious Sock Knitters | May 31, 2008
By red853@yahoo.com

I hope that this is the right place to post about the pattern for this month.  This is the first time I am doing a toe up pattern.  The directions say to knit until the piece measures 5 1/4 inches long then start the gusset shaping.  I have a size 9 1/2 foot how am I going to know that the sock will be long enough for my foot if I follow the directions.  Thanks.

What to do with your pattern while you’re knitting

Notorious Sock Knitters | May 31, 2008
By Meg

So, here’s a (maybe really dumb) question. I love to have a pattern in a page holder sleeve. I love a pattern that is neat, and clean, and without coffee rings. Is copying the pattern okay if it’s just you using it? Then the copy will get the coffee, (or whatever else) stains.  Try as I might I can’t seem to keep my patterns fresh and lovely.  So I’m fishing here. What do y’all do with your patterns to preserve them?

I’m embarassed to even talk about how the last two patterns are holding up. They are such great stocking patterns, they are getting knit up in many different colorways. But Oi! the poor paper.

Looks like a cute children’s book!

What Color Name is the new club kit?

Notorious Sock Knitters | May 29, 2008
By Lori Stevens

I just got my club kit and the colors are FANTASTIC!  However, my yarn didn’t have a band on it, so I don’t know what the color is called?  Can anyone help without giving anything away to those who haven’t gotten their kits yet?

Missing Kit

Notorious Sock Knitters | May 29, 2008
By Gisele M Hawkins

I may be one of the few members down in Lake Charles, LA, but I haven’t recieved my package yet.  Has it gone out to the lower states in the South?

Could I have been overlooked?

Granted I am still stuck on the heel of the other kit and put it aside to take on other tasks, but I still love my yarn and my socks.

Waiting patiently in Lousiana.

May: Cleopatra’s Stockings

Designer's Corner, Warning Spoilage | May 28, 2008
By MarjanHammink

hi there Notorious Sock Knitters!

my name is Marjan, I live in the Netherlands. So now my Cleopatra found her way to you from my studio to your homes. She is in fact the result of my son playing with a lovely green organza ribbon. He wrapped it around a sock on a mannequin’s foot and it just looked beautiful. I tried how the slashing pattern traveled across the foot sole…. found out how it looked nicer when I doubled it on the upper foot, eliminating the foot sole pattern, cutting out excessive lace, letting the yarn do what it always does best: playing the starring role.

May: Cleopatra’s Stockings

Designer's Corner | May 27, 2008
By MarjanHammink

dear sock knitters,

hej - I’d like to say hello to you all! My name is Marjan, I live in the Netherlands and I designed Cleopatra’s Stockings.

This pattern was the result of a piece of lovely ribbon, wrapped around a mannequin’s foot. I loved the way it curved around & around. I tried to follow the path that the ribbon had shown me, yes also on the foot sole…. But the effect would be even double if I only kept the pattern on the upper foot… And why not create ladders where you’d avoid them, holes where previously unwanted? Not too much though, I wanted it to be a fast knit after all and the yarn hardly needed anything, gorgeous as it is already. Wishing you lots of fun with the Cleopatra’s - Yarnissima
