General Knitting Questions | May 07, 2008
Hi! I just got started on my pair of Leaflings and I’m having trouble understanding what I need to do in the gusset instructions. I’d appreciate if someone could help me out with this: slip 1 > 2 more sts.
Thanks!

If you read all the instructions for Rd 1, you will see that you do an increase on either side of the patterned section of the sock, then you have an odd number of stitches and are instructed to [sl1, k1] however many times, which will leave you with a final stitch, which you will slip. The “>>2 more sts.” refers to the first part where you do the 2 increases.
Hope I have cleared this up for you!
That means, I think, that at that point you have added 2 more stitches. There are a few other places where there is similar notation about the number of stitches that should be on the needles, etc. I am almost finished, Kitchner stitches to go. Have fun!
Looks like you got some help already, but I thought I’d chime in anyway. I just finished my first Leafling sock. The “>” symbol was confusing to me, but what was more helpful than figuring that out was knowing that the increases go next to the patterned part of the sock (right between the stockinette section and the purl edge of the pattern). Only ripped back twice before I figured that one out, but it did make for a beautiful heel!
