Violet Size question

May Kit Questions | June 28, 2008
By Susan Billard

I wear size 35 european or 5-5.5 american shoe WIDE that’s 21.5 cm long and 9 cm wide. 8.5inches around with a high arch. Large size pattern won’t fit right small would be too tight. Any suggestions? I did the fire with 56 sts and leafling with 50. size 1 and 2 needles respectively. This pattern looks hard to adjust to my crazy foot. I do have lots of problems finding shoes to fit correctly! Thanks for amy help!

Hi Susan. I would knit the medium or large, and adjust the number of plain stitches you have between the sideladder and slash stitches to fit you the best. See the note about this on p.2 of the pattern. Re: the foot: you don’t have to have sole stitches equal your number of instep stitches, but you will have to readjust the stitch number or rework the math as needed at the heel turn.

Also, if you knit with 2-circs, you can use a larger or smaller needle on the sole stitches or instep stitches to adjust the fabric for a custom fit.

Hope that helps!

..you know Gail, I never even thought about that, using two different needles. Genius.

Thanks for the info, the needle size difference is a good one. Having a short foot makes some patterns hard to fit!
