Cleo toe stitch-count off @ r. 4 of lace/cable. Help!

I’m still pretty much at the beginning of my Cleos; have both toes done, and am beginning the cable-lace pattern on one of them. knitting the medium size.

I know it was early when I was working on it on the train this morning — but I am to “medium only” “row 4″, and the counts are off. As I count, the row 4 instruction works out to 36 stitches instead of 34, because it adds a purl stitch on each end right after/before k1tbl; but it still wants me to k22 (I think) in the center section. *is* there an error in the “medium only” section? I’m talking about the section right after “instructions,” then “all sizes” but right before starting the chart and side-stitch pattern. I’m sorry I don’t have the page# in front of me.

If not, can anyone who has knit size ‘medium’ hazard a guess as to where I might have gone wrong? I super-promise that I have not blown by, or dropped, any yo’s. That’s always the first thing I check. I’ve stared at it and stared at it, counted and counted.

I don’t want to kludge here, because I can just *smell* that I will end up messing with the arithmetic for the rest of the project if I do.

Thank you all ~

There isn’t an error in the medium, and the stitch count is 34 stitches. The purl stitches aren’t increases, just purl where the pattern indicates. You should maintain 34 stitches on the instep and 28 on the sole until you start the gussets.

Hope this helps.

hmm. i now think my hands are doing something my brain doesn’t know about. some anomalous, weirdo error. i’ll try it again on the train ride home. it’s got to work, darnit — i definitely have 34 stitches on the instep.

I pulled out my copy of the pattern and read the instructions for the medium size. I count 34 stitches in the instructions for the instep on round 4 size medium only, not 36. As Cabledguy says it’s just a purl 1 (p1), not a make 1(M1) purl.

So the row has 6 stitches as indicated including a decrease through the back loops before the yarn over, the 22 st front slash pattern, then the next 6 stitches which also includes a decrease before the yarn over.

now i’m *sure* my hands are doing something my brain is not telling them to. i knew it wasn’t a m1 purl — *no clue* why i come up short at the far end. maybe i blew by the k2tog’s? man would that be strange. but i’ve been known to do strange things while knitting.

in a little more than an hour i’ll be on the train and figuring it out. i stared at it for so long, it completely helps to know *for sure* that there are no errors in the pattern. i’ll focus on what i’m *doing*, and it will come out right. because my stitch-count is *definitely* correct to begin with.

bad brain. bad, bad brain.

thank you so much for weighing in!
