Is there going to be a sock camp in 2009, or will all of the sock energy go into the Sock Summit?

To the best of my knowledge there will be sock camp and sock summit. Tina is nothing if not multi-talented and an over achiever extrodinaire! Hoping I get to both so I can see CeCe and Fiberfishling. Happy Knitting All, Alice

I have to make an extremely difficult choice between going to sock camp and the sock summit, and I don’t want to have to choose. The sound you hear is my foot stomping. The DH isn’t in favor of me making 2 trips out to the PNW a year, plus, I only have enough vacation time left for one week. wah!!! What’s a NSK to do??? I have no idea how I’m going to make this decision. Maybe I need to start buying VA Lottery tickets!!

Happystasher: you have to figure out a way to make one or the other a business trip. I’m thinking the summit is the logical choice for that. Attend as a vendor to promote your nonprofit. (At least I think what I remember is that you work for a non-profit.) Then all you have to do is convince your boss. Don’t waste valuable yarn $’s on lottery tickets. BTW I’m in the same boat at least about trying to decide which to focus on attending if I decide I can only go to one. Being between jobs by choice takes the time-off out of the equation but adds a lot of “can I afford it” on the other side. And congratulations on the new Rare Gem soon to be in your collection.

Hmmmmm…you may be on to something! I’ll give it some thought and see if I can make the Summit a business trip. But any business I create won’t be ready in time to apply to be a vendor–I’m pretty sure. I know I can’t do it for my current job. Yes, I work for a non-profit, but it’s a child development humanitarian org, and maybe I haven’t given this enough thought yet, but I can’t seem to rationalize how I could get my boss to okay this as a business trip when she won’t send me to a national conference that directly relates to my job.

I can’t wait to welcome that new Rare Gem into the fold/stash!! I’ll have to find a pun related sock pattern for it. :o)

Well…I’ll try and take a stab at the Summit/Camp question.
Sock Summit is new this year and will be an event all about Socks! There will be classes taught and a yarn market of many different vendors-not just BMFA.

Sock Camp is camp for sock knitters! The emphasis is on socks but is truly a camp for us knitter to attend as ‘campers’. We all more or less follow the same schedule and attend for the entire length of camp and participate in all the scheduled activities. Camp usually involves silly camp antics and activities and includes a Camp Yarn Store that has BMFA yarns and related items for sale.

I think the Sock Summit is more of a venue to participate in as you wish: one or all days, one or many classes, shop the market or not, participate on one or many sock-related activities. This is the very FIRST Sock Summit, so hasn’t been played out into reality yet but you can expect it to be a wondrous event!

There is a difference and you can get more details if you read the Knitty Ha Ha flyer and the Sock Summit information as it develops.

HTH.
