Turning heel Cleo’s stockings

Hi, I feel sort of dim today. I just got to the part of the heel turn after the preliminary short rows. The instructions read: “Work a transition round as follows :  slip 1 knit 9, [knit next stitch together with it's wrap] 8(9,10) times…” this doesn’t make sense to me, can someone explain?

thanks in advance.

What’s not making sense, Otter? The bit about “knit next st together with its wrap”?

Here’s the thing: w&t is one method to prevent holes at those places where you turn in the middle of a row. You wrap a stitch when you turn. Later, on some subsequent row, you hide the wrap (make it invisible on the RS of the fabric) by working it with the stitch.

If you need to knit that stitch, insert the right needle under the wrap and then into the stitch, then knit the two loops together.

If you need to purl that stitch, use the right needle to pick the back of the wrap onto to left needle, then purl the wrap and the stitch together.

So, with Cleo’s stockings, you’ve wrapped a series of stitches. One at a time, you need to knit each of those stitches with its wrap, to hide all of the wraps.

Hope this helps! If not, Google for “short rows” and you should be able to find a number of resources on the ‘net.

Thanks, I understand short rows, I just couldn’t tell if i was going back and forth or not. If that’s what it means I understand. thanks again.
