It is the last shipment of the year. Hard to believe that a whole year has gone by. Where has the time gone? I love the fact that we can count time in the socks. We can remember seasons by what we have knit to wear on our feet or to give others to wear on their feet. We have the colors of that season and time in the club we have our patterns and designers and how we were inspired by them. This year was marked for me by dragons in January, a lucky March, May, a not so shrinking queen, July was sooo good-y, September cloned itself to distraction and November…well, we will see soon enough.
Yesterday we shipped the International kits and I have to say it is no small miracle that these have left the building. It was all looking well and good. Everything was flowing along no kinks or quirks in our way. Then a very innocent looking package arrived in the mail from that lovely notorious sock knitter, Just Jen.

This is what was inside.
Eeeevil Caramel Pecan Brownies
The most decadent chocolate experience most of us have ever had. You will see from the following pics that they wrought havoc here in blue moon land.
It takes a lot to bring this woman down!
What’s a dyer to do against this kind of temptation?
Oh no! They’re down. Team Blue Moon taken down and out by chocolate.
Would you like another brownie my pretty ?
Who me?
Mwwaaahaaha evil wicked brownie strikes again!
thanks Jen

Hmmmmm………Death by Chocolate?
So…we can blame JustJen for delaying our sock club packages?
I want that recipe!
Oh, dear! Oh, no! The brownines were supposed to give you all Lots Of Energy and Shipping Enthusiasm, not send you all into a cocoa coma. I hereby apologize for all late shipments and chocolate fingerprints on boxes. I only wanted to say “thanks for spendifarous yarn”!
The best laid plans… sigh.
(I’m laughing so hard at the pics that I’m glad my office is mostly empty at this hour. Thanks for sharing, Tina & all!)
great job jen!!! who could resist such temptation? second the request for the recipe! my nephews would love them next week!!!
someone told me yesterday that turkey day is next week. i lost a week somehow!! yikes and now socks to boot. how am i going to roast a turkey and mix up the socks???
girls, you look content!!! thanks for a great year!!!
For a minute there, I thought the brownies WERE the colorway. Say, works for me. Brownies, sock yarn . . .
Okay, special for Lou, let’s see how well cut-n-paste works:
Caramel-Pecan Brownies aka Eeeeeevil Brownies
4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour (Yeah, I know. More sugar than flour.)
1 package (14 ounces) caramel squares*
1/3 cup heavy cream
2 cups pecan pieces, divided (walnuts work, too)
1 12-oz package (2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
* You’re not s’posed to eat ‘em while you unwrap them. Really. (I buy ‘em in bulk and use my yarn scale to weigh out 14 oz.)
1. Preheat oven to 350 (325 for glass dish). Line 13×9 baking dish with foil extending over edges to form handles. Do NOT skip this step, because the caramel will try to meld with the side of the pan. You can peel the foil off of the caramel layer. It’s difficult to peel the pan off.
- Coat foil with nonstick cooking spray.
2. In large microwave-safe bowl, microwave unsweetened chocolate and butter on High for 2 minutes, or until butter is melted.
- Stir until chocolate is melted. Stir sugar into chocolate mixture until well blended.
- Mix in eggs.
- Stir in flour.
- Spread half of batter into pan.
3. Bake 25 minutes, or until firm to touch. (It’s about 20 min., in my oven.)
- Meanwhile, in another microwave-safe bowl, microwave caramels and cream on High for 2 minutes, or until caramels begin to melt.
- Whisk until smooth.
- Stir in 1 cup nuts.
- Gently spread caramel mixture over baked brownie in pan.
- Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
- Pour remaining batter evenly over caramel mixture, sprinkle with remaining nuts (some caramel may peek through).
4. Bake 30 minutes or until firm to touch. (It’s about 35 min., in my oven)
- Cool in pan.
- Run knife around edge of pan.
- Lift from pan using foil as handles.
- Cut into squares and hide from everyone in the house!
Jen - we need you back here on the east coast - why oh why did you leave us? Brownies and technical backup needed urgently.
Susan
The Sock Yarn is coming,
The Sock Yarn is coming,
get to your needles,
The Sock Yarn is coming!!!
oh no,no,no Jen is ours now. Sorry you cannot have her back.
Well if we can’t have her back here I will have to visit the west coast more often then! Any more room for expat Brits on your coast?
plenty Susan
Oooh, I hope you included a brownie in each of our packages.
Yummmmmm! I’ll be stopping at the grocery store on my way home from work today; thanks for sharing the recipe! I will try not to eat them all single-handedly…..in one evening….I bet you could eat them with a spoon while they’re warm, couldn’t you? (no, don’t tell me. I don’t really want to know….)
oh no a yummy looking recipe! (will have to make) choc coma’s are always a catch 22! (good and evil at the same time!)
Figgered it out! Jen stopped by laden in chocolate gifts to get a secret glimpse of November kit yarn and materials.
Clever Jen!!
Sharon T.
So how goes the rest of the shipping??? Just wondering when I should start stalking our mailman here in Salem, Oregon!
Thanks for the recipe, Jen!! I have to make them very soon.
I second Tan, I’d be perfectly fine and happy with a colorway inspired by these decadent brownies — the Eeeeeeevil Brownie colorway. Tina, I know at the first sock camp I said I didn’t care for brown, but I do now! Especially chocolate brown. :o) Yum-O.
No, no, I promise! The brownies didn’t inspire the yarn (the timing was pure chance) and (don’t I wish I was that clever, Sharon T.!) they went by mail so I haven’t had a secret glimpse.
(I still get the giggles when I see Debra protecting that plate.)
