Anouncements, Anouncements…. AnOUncements!   ( thank you cockeye the sockateer)

Because there are truly only so many hours in the day and no matter how hard I try to push the boundaries of time it just is not working out for me. So my sock knitting lovelies, here are the Camp dates. More to follow very, very soon I promise!

The dates Are March 3oth to April4th.   Arrival and check in with evening meet and greet on the 30th and departure on the 4th.

I am still working the details out with the resort. I will post as soon as they are final. For those of you who needed the dates in order to plan your vacations there they are.

Hi ho, Hi ho, its off to Camp we go with knitting needles and our yarn.

Hi ho, Hi ho, Hi ho

Hi ho….

Ha ha ha ha!

You mean I get to arrive home just in time for Monkey1’s birthday? She will be thrilled. DH, on the other hand, will need lots and lots of…socks. That rock, of course. Bwah. I am setting myself up for some epic craziness.

Man, I wish for once that Sock Camp would be scheduled AFTER April 15th.

w00t!, YeeHAA!, SQUEEEE! and assorted other giddy noises here!

I can’t come to Sock Summit due to my ‘other’ yearly camp, Family Y camp, so I am SO looking forward to this.

By the way (since Cockeyed and I seem to share the same Camp upbringing, I have to share this) — after we sang
“announcements, anNouncements, anNOUNcements!”
we always sang a middle part (about the time the person who was making the announcements was opening their mouth)–

*kind of* to the same tune (well, to the tune of “a-hunting we will go”, sort):
“a terrible death to die, a terrible death to die, a terrible death, a terrible death, a terrible death to die!”
(then repeat “announcements” x 3 again)

This one, of course, is the exception to that sentiment!

Oh, no!!! I have a work meeting that same week - I never imagined it would be a conflict. So no sock camp for me.

On December 10th, 2008 at 12:02 pm JustJen said:

Too funny, Cathy-Cate!

At Camp Fire camp, we sang:

A horrible death to die!
A horrible death to die!
A horrible death, to be talked to death!
A horrible death to die!

On December 10th, 2008 at 12:56 pm Cathy-Cate said:

Ooh, I like JustJen’s version even better!
Bet hers was the original version that got lost over time and many repetitions at my camp….

On December 10th, 2008 at 8:11 pm Ruth said:

Our announcements song was a little different, words as follows:

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
Here we sit like bumps on cedar log, bumps on a cedar log, bumps on a cedar log.
Here we sit like bumps on a cedar log waiting for you to speak.

I guess we weren’t so in to the death thing :) But of course you weren’t “in” until you could do all the hand movements while doing it.

On December 10th, 2008 at 10:42 pm knitter@mac.com said:

At 4-H camp we also sang the one that Ruth mention, except it went like–

Here we stand like birds in the wilderness, birds in the wilderness, birds in the wilderness,
Here we stand like birds in the wilderness waiting to be fed.

On December 11th, 2008 at 8:53 am Tina said:

so obviously we should start working on a camp song now

On December 11th, 2008 at 12:03 pm Alice in the Heartland said:

We had a whole series started last year. Must go check out what all we came up with either on last year’s blog or on Ravelry.
At my camp we used the 3x Announcements first, the terrible death to die, then the addition of (in Sock Club style) Tina has another one ‘nother one, ‘nother one, Tina has another one she has them all the time, followed by one more round of Announcements x3.
Just so you know Tina camp means lots of songs in my memory banks.

I’m in the same boat as Lynae-no fun for me until after April 15th!!! But, I do have Sock Summitt on my calendar so at least I get to go to one!

The dates work me. Now, I just have to convince my DH to let me come to camp AND Sock Summit!

I can’t wait!! It’s in my calendar. Now we just need to plan the yarn crawl :)

On December 15th, 2008 at 7:39 pm Mya Martin-Glen said:

Oh boy the yarn crawl! I don’t know if my pocketbook can handle it again this year - especially since you have to pay for checked bags now.

On December 15th, 2008 at 7:52 pm JustJen said:

Don’t forget that some of us are (relatively) local and will be driving to camp… and may be bribed into mailing yarn acquisitions to you.

For a small, fiber-y fee, of course!

(No, seriously. Your clothes are your own problem. Yarn? I — and I suspect several other “locals” — can drop stuff into the mail cheaper than second-bag fees!)

FUN! FUN! FUN!

On December 16th, 2008 at 7:00 pm Mya Martin-Glen said:

Oh Jen, do you think we would be foolish enough to trust our newly acquired yarn to others? Oh no, I would much rather ship back dirty clothes and carry on my babies, I mean my yarn!

On December 16th, 2008 at 8:23 pm JustJen said:

Well, considering that I’d think the same thing, were I you, there are two options:

1) pack up your laundry yourself (what? you think I’m gonna do it? my former teenager child is and adult now) and I’ll ship it.

2) Trust that NSKers will be (albeit reluctantly) sympathetic, and pack up the yarn yourself (see above) and I’ll ship it.

(I may ogle a bit before shipping, but someday I may need you to do the same for me! Fair is fair :-) )

On December 20th, 2008 at 12:29 pm dafracks@comcast.net said:

I had a combo of the two - a terrible death to die, a terrible death to be talked to death - a terrible death to die.

I need to find the words and tune to Murray the Rabbit Boy - that should be able to be twisted into something knitterly and vaguely naughty. What you think I’m well behaved?

Oh when will we know more details??!?!?

At this point I suspect it will be in the first shipment of ‘09. Or a special e-mail once Tina has the new Club site up. Fingers crossed that I can finish my last year’s kits before this year’s first new kit arrives. Only a toe and a pair to go.

On January 21st, 2009 at 10:27 pm Mya said:

Oh Alice, you don’t have to finish last years kits to go to camp (if you do I’m in BIG trouble! I won’t tell you how many I’ve finished).

On February 6th, 2009 at 10:48 pm Alice in the Heartland said:

I just like being caught up before the first kit of the new year comes. I was one sock from that when my new kit arrived. I have to finish my Leyburns before I start the newest kit. But I should have it done before camp starts. I’m actually hoping to get the march kit before I climb on the train to camp this year.
Mya I know lots of folks don’t do the kits as packaged and some don’t do them at all. (That’s something I can’t quite understand.) But, hey, I’m not that jaded about sock knitting yet so every kit is a new adventure for me. Now that I’m in my 3rd year I’m feeling a bit more knowledgeable about sock knitting but sock camp is part of the reason why. Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else. Happy Knitting, Alice
