Camp Travel Help

Notorious Sock Knitters | February 27, 2009
By lazyraven

Hi All,

I’m signed up for the Camp and am VERY excited.  I am looking for a way to travel between SeaTac and the Camp.  I’d rather not rent a car (it’s spensive and I’m cheap) and I hear the bus system is pretty daunting.  This is my first year at Camp and the first time out of Alaska in over four years, so any city with a population many times greater than that of my entire state is pretty intimidating.  Does anyone have any ideas, willing to share a ride, anything?  Please let me know, I’m happy to share gas cost, etc.  Thanks!

Camp Knitty who?

Camp KnittyhaHA, Notorious Sock Knitters | February 24, 2009
By Tina

That would be Camp KnittyhaHA!
At the Resort at Port Ludlow in that week at the end of March, that flows right into April. Where there will be lovely spring breezes and sun ( I swear, I have this on good authority ) and lots and lots of knitting. Great fun. That is the theme of Camp this year, fun. As much sock knitting related hilarity and creativity as we can cram squeeze into 5 days.

At the end of this week, we are sending out your Camp preparedness packages and your homework challenge. Get your needles ready NSK’s and that includes you too, Steph and Cat. I do believe I have foiled your slacker plan to use the chicken forever and ever, as your camp project. ( I can feel this so backfiring on me. Can’t you?)

I have to tell you that when I found out that they were closing Rosario for a few years I panicked. You know that feeling when your whole abdomen seizes and you cannot breathe. Yep, that is the one I am talking about. In waltzes the ever so lovely and wonderful Dana Barrett who worked really hard to find us a place to have Camp. Thanks to Dana we have the Resort at Port Ludlow.
It is a beautiful setting. olympics
Paul, the Inn manager and his staff are very excited to have us.

I knew it was the place for us when I saw this feathered friend.

The clincher for me though was when I mentioned the whole vegetarian issue and was met with respect and some of the best food I have ever eaten. These people know the Inn keeping business and I think that we will be happy here.

I know I am really excited. I am looking forward to seeing all of you, having a massive amount of knit fun, being around the water and the cheese. Paul knows his cheese!
See you soon.

P.S. On March 1st the prices for rooms revert to normal pricing so please make sure you have reserved your rooms by then.

Fingerless Mitts

Not Socks, Notorious Sock Knitters, Warning Spoilage | February 24, 2009
By Michele

After much ripping, re-knitting and Tina’s discovery of the matching beads at Madrona. (Silly me, left mine at home, thanks again Tina!!!) I now have my fingerless mitts out of the Jan 2009 club yarn :)  I knew I wouldn’t wear beaded socks and the pattern cried out to be mitts.  I’m not the best at modifying patterns so I’m impressed that they actually fit!  This is also my first beaded project so there was a small learning curve.  I  made a short cuff because I hate stuffing cuffs under my coat sleeves.

fingerless gloves maybe?

Not Socks | February 17, 2009
By Tina

At Madrona this past week I saw a NSK that was making fingerless gloves with her kit instead of socks.
Anyone else stepping out…?
Making something other than sockies?

We would love to see and hear about it.
( Sorry Deborah I see that you did in fact do this also. My excuse is that I was off planning sock summit and working Madrona. You gloves are loverly)

And what was really funny was that this NSK did not have the rest of her beads with her. I had a kit with me so I checked on the oh so very slim chance that I had the same exact color she needed and you know what? I did! We were both thrilled.

Speaking of beads and a picture is worth a thousand, trillion words…here is Jen ( our brand new sockateer) the day after she posted on the ravelry group about the possibility of beads being included in this kit and why. She had no idea there were beads in this kit and she showed up to help and viola we gave her beads to package. I was at a meeting and missed this wonderful moment. I so wish I could have been there when she walked through the door and saw what was waiting for her. It still makes me laugh a lot.

So here she is our brand new sockateer Jen. ( by the way she needs a name) I cannot think of a more appropriate way to welcome her in true rockin sock club style.

Question about toe shaping?

Notorious Sock Knitters | February 17, 2009
By Andrea Madden

I am finishing up my first sock , medium size.
First I decrease one stitch at the center of the sole and knit that round. to get a total of 30 stitches.

Then Round one is a decrease round. I understand how to do the instructions in the brackets.– That would lead me to a decrease of 2 stitches. But I am supposed to do the brackets twice and then knit to the end of the round. I don’t understand how to do this.

Are these the markers before the insteps?

Thanks
Andrea

Mini-Sock Keychain

Notorious Sock Knitters, Warning Spoilage | February 16, 2009
By Kathryn

For anyone who wants to make the mini-sock keychain:

p10100181

I used the basic toe-up mini-sock instructions from here:  http://telltaleknitter.blogspot.com/2009/02/little-feet.html

And when I got to the leg stitches, I followed this chart:

Enjoy!

I am done with my socks too, here’s a pic I took on the drive back from Webs (for my new spinning wheel) after I’d just finished weaving in the ends:
