I just wound my yarn - by hand - and found only 3 slubs and no knots. I plan to use the crochet hook method to put the beads on to avoid having to deal with the slubs.

The general consensus is that the crochet hook method won’t work for this pattern. First, because the beads are designed to sit between the stitches, which you can’t do with that method and second because the yarn will not go through the size of bead in the kit doubled over as it would need to for the crochet hook method.
Having said that, I threaded all my beads in about an hour once I got going. I used a floss threader. The first few were tough, but after that it got easier. I was careful to leave a very short tail through the threader (about 1/4″) and did have a couple beads that wouldn’t go onto the yarn as their holes were too small. Even so, in an hour I had threaded them for the first sock & was ready to go. Mine are finished now and on my feet this evening. Love this pattern!
