Hints for slubs and thick spots

Well it finally happened, I was knitting along quite merrily and had no notion of knots when suddenly I came to a slubby spot.  There were several thick areas of slubs and weirdly spun yarn.  What I noticed was that some of the slubs were not joined to the yarn itself and it was just a frizzy spot in the yarn.  These I just pulled off using my fingers.  A few of the slubs surrounded the yarn and would slide down the yarn as I tried to slip my beads over them.  Almost like a bead itself.  These, I very very carefully used finger nail clippers to trim the sliding slub until I could pull it off of the yarn.  It worked like a charm.  Now, as far as the knots go,  I am hoping I don’t find one.  I can say I am a frequent BMFA junkie and this is the first time in 16 skiens this has happened!  So you newbies out there, this is a new one on me and this is my 3rd year!!!

I’ve wondered about spit joining the area where there are knots. Or perhaps a Russian join. Just not sure if the beads will go over them or not.

I had a knot in a single ply of the yarn and so I ripped that out and then twisted it really tight and held it, then twisted the beads in the opposite direction over the broken ply. It was really frustrating, but eventually I got them all over that part. The knot was about a sock and a half into the ball.

I had a slub that the beads stopped at so I licked my finger to wet the yarn and rubbed and twisted it until the beads would pass thru(<: Worked great!
