Trouble With Cast On and Number of Stitches - Large

Hello NSK’s!  I’m having a little bit of trouble, can anyone assist me?

1) Tubular Cast On - I’ve follow the instructions 4 times and end up with the appropriate 80 stitches and then after joining in the round (knit/purl/knit/purl) I  end up with 82 stitches, I must be missing something.  Has this happened to anyone?

- I switched to a Long tail cast on… and then…

2) I had 80 Cast On stiches, did my 10 rows of knit/purl/knit/purl.  Moving to the leg, there are 72 stitches, Do I need to decrease equally or am I missing something?

Rosebud question

So I just got to my first rosebud and I’ve tried it a few times but it just doesn’t look right.  When you draw the loop of yarn forward through the fabric - is that just like knitting a stitch?  Or are you supposed to draw it through somewhere lower?  Any advice?

cast on recommendations?

In looking through this pattern I am concerned with what kind of cast on to use that I can pick up to do the top picot edge and still be elastic.  Wondering about using a provisional cast on.  Any one care to share the cast on they are using/will use.

Do socks without ribbing stay up?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the March package.  The yarn is gorgeous and the pattern??? Well, I suspected that anything by the Yarn Harlot would be fantastic.   And I’m right.  Can’t wait to start but I’m hesitant.  Anyone have experience about how well socks without ribbing stay up?  I usually extend ribbing on socks to ensure they remain confortable to wear.  But I love the top on these!  I guess I could just dive in….
