Campish Preparedness II

Camp KnittyhaHA | March 13, 2009
By Tina

Come dye with me.

Playing in my color world. To prepare for this I want you for the week or so before Camp to pay very close attention to the colors in your world. Look closely at what you have surrounded yourself with; wall color, furniture, clothing even your car color-wise. Pay attention to how being in places where a certain color is predominant makes you feel. I want you to look at how certain colors in nature occur together and look at how they move from one to another. Our world is colored in bright obvious ways and in subtle shaded ways. Even if we are not conscious of it our brain takes this information in all the time. What I am asking is that we bring it more into focus and give it some attention and thought.
This is kind of like being on a color adventure or safari. Take notes if you want. A color journal for the week would be awesome but not mandatory. What I want is for you to become really sensitive to the color of your world.
I would also like you to bring something with you like a picture or piece of fabric, skein of yarn… that has your favorite colors in it. I would also like you to bring something that has color in it that might not be your most comfortable color place.

That covers it!
See you soon.

I can’t wait.

Since starting to blog a couple years ago (and taking and sharing more pictures — really, starting to carry my camera around with me much of the time — I notice color much more. (Also, since I have played a little with dyeing and designing.)

Sounds like a cool exercise to carry over onto the train trip to Camp! I am looking forward to rolling through the colors of the West — so different from where I live, and I’ve only been there a couple times.

Seriously, can’t wait!! I can’t imagine anyone else I’d want to talk color with!!!

And the assignment, love it! I’m thinking it would be a nice blog project for the week or so before camp too!! We’ll say a “photo journal!”

Cool. interesting. filling my head already.
aside from the dirty snow, there’s a blue spruce tree outide my window, huge, strong and unscathed from winterness, that has always intrigued me.

My camera is ready and travels with me constantly unfortunately I didn’t have it out when the Bald Eagle landed on the other side of the 2 lane road we were driving on to pick up a delectable bit of road kill. Can you say WOW? Image is in the mind’s eye at least.
Train will definitely give us some neat photo ops Cathy-Cate.

A recent sock club yarn got me started thinking about how colors I don’t like transition into colors I love. This particular colorway featured one of my least favorite colors and one of my don’t-like-very-much colors.

But there, in the transition into and out of those two colors, where my not-favorites blend and morph, I find two of my favorite colors.

Not to get too metaphysical or anything, but that entire mental exercise reminded me that there’s “becoming” as well as “being”.

and Jen in my opinion those are the best parts, those transitions and becomings.

I think it said we were to leave our blog address so people could peek in at our photojournal. Magnolias, spring blooms of magnolias. They make me dreamy eyed and all warm and squishy inside.

Since I don’t have a blog I’m going to try to put this as a project on my Ravelry pages. Look for “altygrae” on the people pages and for Camp KnittyHaHa on the projects list but wait until March 22nd so I have time to get to the library and load pictures.

The post where I put my blog link in yesterday isn’t showing up (I think it’s being held for moderation):
but I will be putting up color meditations and meanderings all week, starting yesterday! If you click on my name, it will take you to my blog.
