To work the heel on these socks it says to use 33 stitches. If I divide the sock in half, that is 32 and the cuff is patterned according to 32. Where do I pick up the 33rd stitch? Thanks,

Val, the sock isn’t divided perfectly in half when working the heel. Rather, the heel gets 33 of the stitches, and the instep gets 31. This ensures the rib patterning on the instep is centered, and looks the same at both edges.
So, you just need to rearrange your stitches so 33 are on one needle, and 31 are on another needle (or two, if you’re using dpns).
The part I don’t understand is that the cuff has a very defined pattern on each side..there is a rib of k1, p1, k2,p1, k1 in between each pattern area that is the front and the back. If I split in two with 31/33 stitches, that rib section on the cuff is skewed by 1 stitch. Maybe I am making this harder than its supposed to be..or I am too fussy?
I can’t move on till I figure this out..maybe I will have another beer and take it on the deck? Sounds like a plan for now. The worst that happens is that I rip back but I know I will have the same result as what I have now…
