The Dyer Is In

Announcements | September 23, 2009
By Tina

As much as I am ever in.
So you ask a question or share a thought related to what might be coming your way this shipment and then I will respond appropriately. Okay… or inappropriately as inspired.
I do not sit at a computer all day so responses will not be instant. I will do my best to be timely. Carrying laptop everywhere so you will be my constant companions.
Kind of nice.

Would it be a design by someone that rhymes with hat in a colorway we might see when staring at the ocean?

On September 23rd, 2009 at 9:57 am Tina said:

What is a hat? A head covering for warmth to protect one from the elements(cement) or something we wear to adorn and decorate ourselves with? Really a hat for some is a ceremonial head dress and for others a fun knit to use some of that extra yarn up with?
So yes I guess its possible that you might see this colorway when staring at the ocean wearing a hat knit by this designer for any of the above reasons.

Would our colorway have a river running through it?

On September 23rd, 2009 at 10:13 am Tina said:

Not through it.

Something to do with New York and maybe the Hudson River?

Can you tell us something about what inspired this new shipment’s colorway?

Is the colorway the colors of a river?

If you could pick only one song from either playlist to describe the colorway or pattern which song would it be….

I am planning on going to see the “Drowsy Chaperone” next month. Will the socks be appropriate to wear to the theatre?

Is the designer Cat or Cookie? Is it cables or lace?

On September 23rd, 2009 at 11:14 am Sue said:

I don’t think Tina is going to answer a real direct question about the pattern or colorway.

I think we need to ’sneak up on her’ and ask a question that if she answers we will get a little tidbit of a hint…

On September 23rd, 2009 at 11:32 am Kelly said:

Oh, I have another question! (I hope that we are allowed more than one…) Will the pattern be a nice twisty lace pattern that slowly meanders along, like the rivers in the playlist?

On September 23rd, 2009 at 11:41 am Nartian said:

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Sorry, couldn’t resist a little Monty Python, especially since they have their own musical, Spamalot. See, it’s sorta related to your 2nd playlist. Speaking of which, 2 playlists - 2 patterns? 2 designers/guests?

On September 23rd, 2009 at 12:04 pm Tina said:

Nope on the whole New York theme.

Moon River…reflections in night water … pools of light and darkness, and stars.

Just free thinking here.

Might the bright “lights” of Broadway or the chaotic glow of Sock Summit factor into the colors?

On September 23rd, 2009 at 12:45 pm Kelly said:

Will be adding anything to the socks (pebble-like beads)?

Are you fond of the musical “Cats?”

On September 23rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm COgirl said:

Ok, not related to this month’s shipment (I’ll just wait to be surprised.)

Not being a dyer, I’m just impressed with how the yarns knit up. For example, some yarns are stripy, some are kind of splotchy (like Pepe). What do you do to get the different effects?

River Dance.

On September 23rd, 2009 at 5:21 pm Tina said:

ok Sorry for the delay am back from Dr. Brain is doing way better.

This colorway was inspired but the more subtle part of this season. The parts that you might miss if you aren’t really paying attention or have the right light.

Depends on the river Linda. Where it is what it looks like what time of year. Could be a frozen river, what about a riverbed…

one song? only one, hmm… let me go look. I’ll be right back.

On September 23rd, 2009 at 5:30 pm Tina said:

So that song would be “My Favorite Things” Sue.

The designer certainly is Cat or Cookie or hey maybe Anna.

I can honestly say that in this shipment there is certainly meandering and a few twists.

On September 23rd, 2009 at 7:17 pm Sue said:

I’m glad to hear you doing well after taking that spill.

You are making me thing of a ‘river’ colorway with twisted stitches. But of course you have sent me in the wrong direction with hints in the past so I have to be careful.

If this shipment contains a lot of your favorite things it is bound to be fantastic.

Hold the process sockateers we need to dig through those thousands and find Cindy’s package she cannot wait any longer.
lol

We’re either flowing down a river or we’re on the yellow brick road.
In either case, I think of meandering loops, lazying their way around. Have you ever seen the way a river cuts through the land while looking out the window of a plane? I think the yellow brick road does the same. Is part of this your inspiration?

It starts with love all the time it does here. It is the magic ingredient here. We all love each other and I love all things fibery and color and am awesome at spreading my disease.
Because of the summit that was it had been awhile since I was able to spend any amount of quality time in the barn and att the dye table. Honestly I was feeling a bit depressed. A little post partum and missing that part of myself.
This colorway and most of the new fall ones are my reentry back into my color world. I didn’t even know how much I missed it was too busy really. That feel of wet yarn and the smell and mixing everything up and experimenting with this and that color, what looks good layerd and what needs to pop and how do we want it to knit and…
When I know I got it, that magic AH HA moment. Love love it. Love love it.
That was probably way more info than you wanted but there it is.

I love the way you make us think and laugh often at the same time. I think you probably deserved a few postpartum moments after helping birth the sock summit. So I think you turned to your dyers heart and also to your creative designer friends.Does one live on a mountain and the other an island?

Hmmm … My favorite things, raindrops, roses, copper kettles, brown paper packages. Riverbeds? Could it have something to do with Riverbed architecture by Cat Bordhi?

that is an interesting thought Mary…

COgirl,

Wicked dancing. A special dance for each effect. Kaw kaw, with that one I almost sprained something.

I can’t even think of a good question to ask for a hint or clue. But, I will say that my love affair with Kaw Kaw grew exponentially while I was knitting with it. When I received the skein at camp, it wasn’t love at first sight, and I can definitely say I probably wouldn’t have given it a second glance if I had seen it in a store, but when we all decided to do a KAL for Monke Kaw Kaw socks, I joined in and fell deeply in love with that colorway — it really is brilliant, genius color-work, Tina. All of those subtle variations of color playing so harmoniously together, just made my heart beat a bit faster. I’d knit a row or two and hold the SIP up in the light, admire it, and then knit on only to stop again, hold it up and sigh. They remain as one of my most favorite and treasured pair of socks.

On September 24th, 2009 at 3:19 pm Tina said:

ahh don’t worry Mary between the barn girls and the sockateers and my family there is no way that is happening. I am not even allowed tog o for a walk by myself these days.

On September 24th, 2009 at 4:07 pm Mary said:

Walks alone are nice, but it is always nice to be able to share what you see. We’re fortunate to get to see what you see in how you express your colors, but I imagine a walk with you is even a more special joy! No wonder they look out for you so well. What a blessing to have such wonderful people in your life.

On September 25th, 2009 at 2:33 pm Diane Palme said:

So, we have a river, but not running through it.

Perhaps the riverBED is the clue! And then the color is all the colors in a river bed and the way a rock looks when it’s wet versus when it’s dry.

All reds and browns and greys with bits of black and sparkle!

(no, I don’t have my package yet, but hopefully today)

On September 27th, 2009 at 11:32 pm Birgit said:

Maybe it really is Cat Bordhi’s Riverbed architecture, which means the second playlist is a hint for the pattern. Maybe that makes the first playlist a hint for the color? Seems to me it’s mostly musicals which are considered classics? So a classy fall colour? Could it be you are baking brownies for us?
