Finished!

January '09 Kit Questions | August 03, 2009
By CaroleNJ/SloKnitR

I finished my Queen of Beads & they are fabulous. Due to previous info posted, I started out with medium for the cuff & leg - I worked the gusset til I had 73 stitches (size large) and finished off using size medium instep chart, but maintaining 73 stitches through the sole. They fit my slightly wide foot perfectly & I have no trouble pulling them on. They are really beautiful.

Trouble With Cast On and Number of Stitches - Large

January '09 Kit Questions, Warning Spoilage | March 30, 2009
By birchtreemn@yahoo.com

Hello NSK’s!  I’m having a little bit of trouble, can anyone assist me?

1) Tubular Cast On - I’ve follow the instructions 4 times and end up with the appropriate 80 stitches and then after joining in the round (knit/purl/knit/purl) I  end up with 82 stitches, I must be missing something.  Has this happened to anyone?

- I switched to a Long tail cast on… and then…

2) I had 80 Cast On stiches, did my 10 rows of knit/purl/knit/purl.  Moving to the leg, there are 72 stitches, Do I need to decrease equally or am I missing something?

Thank you NSK’s!

Small error in labeling heel flap chart?

In the Queen of Beads pattern, I believe that the heel flap charts are mis-labled.  The flap for the large size is labled for medium and vice versa.

Question about knitting the heel flap

General Knitting Questions, January '09 Kit Questions | February 05, 2009
By Kelly

Hi there everyone! I am still pretty new to sock knitting (this will be my third pair ever), and I am just about ready to begin knitting the heel flap (and feeling nervous!) I am knitting the large size socks, and the directions say “Knit 1 st from left needle to right needle. Work heel flap back and forth over next 36 sts according to heel flap chart, or as follows”. My question is, what happens to that first stitch? Does it just sit there on my needle while I knit the heel flap using stitches 2 through 37? If yes, should I maybe move it to one of my two other needles that will be sitting idle while I am knitting the heel flap, so that it doesn’t accidently fall off the active needles? Or, is the first stitch really stitch 1 of the 36 heel flap stitches? Any advice or guidance that you can give will be greatly appreciated! Thanks and have a great day!

Knitting with Beads

General Knitting Questions, January '09 Kit Questions, Warning Spoilage | February 03, 2009
By Tanu

There were a few questions on Ravelry about doing beads strung on with Magic Loop method.  I made a quick video of it and it seemed to help some knitters so i’m just going to repost it here for knitters who aren’t on Ravelry.

Combined Knitting

January '09 Kit Questions, Notorious Sock Knitters | February 02, 2009
By Inge Freund

I was taught to knit using the “Combined Knitting” method, meaning I knit into the back of the stitch with the yarn in my left hand (the leading edge is at the back, not the front).  Do I need to make any adjustments when reading the pattern?  This is my first attempt at more complex knitting and I would appreciate any feedback.

Sock Size

January '09 Kit Questions | February 02, 2009
By Deborah

Is anyone else struggling with sock size?  I started out knitting  a size medium.  After a couple inches I knew my socks would be way too big.  (I’m dead on with gauge.)  So I ripped out all of my knitting on both socks (I do both at once) and started over knitting a size small.  I am right before the heel flaps (and have made the longer version of the socks and cannot get the socks over my heel because now they are too small.

I suppose I need to rip them out again and start over using a smaller needle and a size medium and try to get something in the middle.  Is anyone else having problems?  I hate to keep ripping out my socks because the wear from the beads being slid up and down the yarn is taking a toll and producing lots of fuzzies.

Uggh, please help.  I just strung 180 of 200 beads and went to push them down only to be stopped by a knot!  My only consolation at this point is that I didn’t find the knot after knitting 3 inches into the cuff.  However, I have to unstring, cut a foot or so of yarn and start over - KNOT Ha! the end of the world but frustrating and making me look at the wound ball with skepticism!  What if it happens again - what will I do?

Hey veterans - don’t leave me hanging and don’t tell me to cut and start over. How’s that for a challenge?!?
