Everything I learned on day one…

January '09 Kit Questions, Warning Spoilage | January 29, 2009
By Sock Junkie

-Definatly get the floss threaders.  I tried glue, nail polish, and a regular beading needle with beading string.  They work Ok, but, you have to reapply and the beading string is not strong enough, the yarn ply separates, my left eye starts to twitch …  Flossers work the best.  Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, 2.99$  GO GET THEM!!!!!

- Use a pair of pliers, I used surgical hemostats, to grasp your flosser, the extra grip helps to tug the beads down.  The more beads you thread the easier it gets, I guess the yarn gets squished down.

-Getting the beads on the yarn was driving me to drink, but are so worth the effort when you see them sparkling  in the pattern, so hang in there!

-Sivia’s tubular cast on, found on her webpage, works great.  Use a highly contrasting waste yarn so you can see the purl bumps.  I like this a lot, clean and stretchy!

-To quote someone else, STR Rock!!!  Fab and Glam as usual! Great way to start the year.  Sock ON!

-I think I am hooked on beads… what else can I put them on….

Am I the Only One Without a Package?

January '09 Kit Questions | January 29, 2009
By Christina

Has everyone else received their packages, or at least their tracking number?  I haven’t seen either one.  I did receive conformation that my credit card was charged.  Any idea when I might receive my package?

Knitting in the Round: RS, WS, What side?

January '09 Kit Questions, Notorious Sock Knitters | January 27, 2009
By KHM

heh—help?  The pattern legend stipulates some symbols as “K on WS, P on RS” or other such directions…  is it just me or is this *confusing*?  Because by convention knitting in the round gives us all RS rows?  Or are we to assume that the first row after cuff is a RS or a WS?  Not being difficult just I’m not certain and I can’t really make out such details in the photo—it appears that all stitches in the background are stockinette with the diamond pattern in garter?  Help?

A dab of glue makes a….

I couldn’t find a needle that would  work with  both the beads and the yarn.  I haven’t used a floss threader since my braces came off 20 years ago.  So here’s what I did.

I took a drop of white glue and rolled the first inch of the yarn in it, rolling with the twist to make a nice sharp point.  After a few minutes of drying, I had a satisfactory beading needle.

Can I knit these on two circulars?

January '09 Kit Questions, Warning Spoilage | January 27, 2009
By Terri Reiskin

I got the kit yesterday - the yarn is amazing and I was so surprised to find the beads in it!  I’m new to the club, and have only made three pairs of plain vanilla “Socks on Two Circulars” from Cat Bordhi, so this is an incredible challenge.  However, I am up for trying it.  It occurred to me, though, that I’d rather use two circulars, as that is the method I know best.  What changes to the directions need to be made to permit this?  Any help I can get would be great to get me going.  Thanks.
