General Knitting Questions, Notorious Sock Knitters | April 21, 2008
I feel like I’m in the crapper since I wasn’t able to go to Camp Crows feet, maybe next year. But is it true we will be able to get the little monkey pattern here? I am a HUGE sock monkey fan, I think all of us who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s are. If so will the pattern be for sale, or is it going to be shared. Thanks. ps looking forward to stitches midwest, signed up for the sock class with JC.

I have a question, but I guess it’s kinda sorta a general knitting question that happens to apply to this sock. I have noticed that most socks that do the heel “flap” the way it is in this sock (slip 1, k 1), never tell you which way to slip. Do I want the knit stitches to twist or not? I always assume when told to slip, if not specified, that it is knitwise. If they are supposed to be slipped purlwise, wouldn’t it make more sense to tell the knitter that? I looked through the abbreviations just to make sure I wasn’t missing some important note on this, so if it is stated in the pattern somewhere, I’m sorry for asking a stupid question. But, I seem to remember having this confusion before, so I think it’s standard isn’t it? So….best to clear up the confusion once and for all, lol. Thanks!!

Help! So far, I’ve done four repeats of the dotted leaves pattern, and for some reason, the ssk side isn’t coming out right. The k2tog side has a nice ridge, defining the edge of the “leaves”, but the ssk side is only barely standing out, and the ssk stitches are clearly not doing what they should.
I had an experienced knitter look at what I’m doing, and she tells me I’m doing ssk right… did anyone else have this issue? Is there something really painfully simple I’m not seeing? It doesn’t look terrible, but it doesn’t look nearly as nice as the pictures on the pattern, either. Makes me sad.
