Heel Help

General Knitting Questions | January 30, 2008
By Erin Martin

I’m ready to do my first heel. But I am confounded by the directions. Should the “end” of the row be in the middle of the heel? Or is the beginning of the heel row at the beginning of the leg row? By beginning I mean the place where I brought both ends together to knit on the round for the first row. If I make the beginning of the row in the center of the heel, then I think I need to break the yarn. I must be totally wrong, so I am wondering if anyone can be more descriptive about what to do with this heel. Any websites you can send me to? Thanks!

Needle Dilemma

General Knitting Questions | January 29, 2008
By Jen G.

Well, I just snapped yet another tiny dpn.  I’ve been using Brittany dpn’s since I started knitting socks, but it seems that with the smaller sizes (0, 1) I put too much pressure on them and they can’t take it!  I like the feel of wood/bamboo, but maybe I need to switch to something else, at least for the littler needles.  Any suggestions for what to purchase instead?

Twist Question

General Knitting Questions | January 29, 2008
By rabbitsknit

What can I do to prevent the twist? Am I winding incorrectly? I had this problem last year also. Is it the way I am putting it on the swift and is there a secret to that? Or is there a specific way to wind it off the swift. Thanks to everyone who has an idea. I hate to stop every so often and unwind my sock.

GAUGE

General Knitting Questions | January 28, 2008
By Ann

I am DEFINITELY a lazy swatcher. I knit like crazy… and start and restart and restart again. I seem to feel the risk that I will get it the first time without swatching is worth it…evidently. My size 1 needles are 2.5 (not 2.25) I am a women’s 9 and am making the size small sock.  Anybody else have this combo?

Big Foot Question

General Knitting Questions | January 27, 2008
By Jana

I’m a freshman sock club member and I have huge feet! Women’s size 11-12 depending upon the shoe brand. I’m worried that I won’t have enough yarn since I’ve never used STR before. Will there be more available to purchase if I run out?
