Not Socks, Notorious Sock Knitters | November 26, 2009
(Acknowledging that this is an international club but mostly made up of USA folks.)
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It’s been one of those years for me with lots to be thankful for. DH survived his brush with H1N1 (so did cockeyed and many SOAR participants from the sound of things). I got another year of Sock Club and Sock Camp under my belt. I got to attend that wonderful event called Sock Summit ‘09. The family is gathering with DH’s mother for yet another Thanksgiving. (My folks happen on the weekend.) DH still has a job. Health insurance that covers 12 days in ICU without a hiccup (so far). And so many other things.
I want to thank everyone for a wonderful year. Looking forward to another great year. Life is good, Hugs from the midwest.

sneak, sneak, sneak,
peeeeeeek,
tiptoe, tiptoe,
glance,
plop!
Knock, Knock, Ding Dong!
(run away, run away)
You’ve just received a virtual May Basket from a fellow club member!
(Don’t pass it on the violets will droop.)
Just visualize a small Dixie cup with a pipe cleaner handle filled with violets and Bracht’s candies, oh and meltaway peppermints.
Left on your doorsteps by a secret admirer. (Which this isn’t because you all know who left this as it’s at the top of the page.)
Hugs and Happy Happy May Day, Alice in the Heartland
P.S. Happy (later in) May birthday Tina!

This is my 1st post to any blog! I told my husband I was changing the toe in the pattern - he was very concerned that the bad-ass Rockin’ Sock Club members would stalk me; or worse -
send me tangled skeins if they knew of this. Thank you dear rockin’ glove lady for easing my fears. I modified the toe - the shaping is done with short rows - I found “Priscillas Dream Socks” in the Fall 2000 issue of Interweave. I will attempt adding pics - please excuse the worn look of my sockies. This is due to excessive use - I am a firm believer in using whatever I make - note, no beads on the foot. If lovin my socks is wrong I don’t wanna be right!

After much ripping, re-knitting and Tina’s discovery of the matching beads at Madrona. (Silly me, left mine at home, thanks again Tina!!!) I now have my fingerless mitts out of the Jan 2009 club yarn
I knew I wouldn’t wear beaded socks and the pattern cried out to be mitts.  I’m not the best at modifying patterns so I’m impressed that they actually fit!  This is also my first beaded project so there was a small learning curve.  I  made a short cuff because I hate stuffing cuffs under my coat sleeves.

At Madrona this past week I saw a NSK that was making fingerless gloves with her kit instead of socks.
Anyone else stepping out…?
Making something other than sockies?
We would love to see and hear about it.
( Sorry Deborah I see that you did in fact do this also. My excuse is that I was off planning sock summit and working Madrona. You gloves are loverly)
And what was really funny was that this NSK did not have the rest of her beads with her. I had a kit with me so I checked on the oh so very slim chance that I had the same exact color she needed and you know what? I did! We were both thrilled.
Speaking of beads and a picture is worth a thousand, trillion words…here is Jen ( our brand new sockateer) the day after she posted on the ravelry group about the possibility of beads being included in this kit and why. She had no idea there were beads in this kit and she showed up to help and viola we gave her beads to package. I was at a meeting and missed this wonderful moment. I so wish I could have been there when she walked through the door and saw what was waiting for her. It still makes me laugh a lot.
So here she is our brand new sockateer Jen. ( by the way she needs a name) I cannot think of a more appropriate way to welcome her in true rockin sock club style.
