May Sock Problems

Notorious Sock Knitters | June 15, 2008
By Marlene

I started ny first May sock this weekend. I tried a provisional cast on technique I saw described in another posting. (Waste yarn goes right onto the needle rather than picking it up from the back bumps of a crocheted chain.) It seemed to go well, but the chain didn’t unzip properly and I ended up with one or two few stitches. I inititally just tried to comprensate by making some stitches. But I wasn’t crazy about how one side of the toe looked - it was very holey. The other side looked great.

Anyway, I ended up frogging the whole thing (it was only the toe, so not a big deal). Before I start again, I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out why the toe was holey and why my chain didn’t unzip well.

Don’t you just love the fact that our survey sight is called Survey Monkey? I know I do.

It is going to be one of those days can you feel it?

So here is our first, if a wee bit belated, survey of the year. My hope here is to gain more knowledge to better serve and to enlighten us all.

Thanks for your time in filling this out! Yes I will post the results.

Baa, Baaa, little sheepy. Have you any wool?

Announcements, Contests | June 11, 2008

Yes ma’am, yes ma’am, two socks full.

Aren’t they beautiful?

Remember my dream from the first dyer’s notes? The one about the traveling sock and Leslie,Tan and L-B being prime knitters on this project. Well, for my recent birthday I received this lovely pair of Monkeys knit by all three of these wonderful women. They added Gail in, for a bit of good measure, I think. (snicker, giggle) Yes, there were a few tears, I was and am still very touched by this gift.

It is at this point, that I am going to out myself and admit that I guessed the two colorways that they used here wrong. I know! Hard to believe, but nonetheless true. I am deeply ashamed all the way down to my very blue heart.

So my notorious sock knitting friends can you tell which colorways these are? hmmm? Smell a contest?

We will randomly choose 6 NSK’s that correctly guess BOTH of the colorways used. Please EMAIL your guesses to contests@bluemoonfiberarts.com. It starts now and the deadline is June 18th at midnight PDT. Anyone with information leading to the correct answers please mums the word. Yes, Tan, Leslie, L-B and Gail this means you. Sorry guys, I will make it up to you I promise!

The photos are courtesy of Gail and the chicken. ( See Tan they fit well)

Ready, set, guess!!

NOTE: ooops, I just noticed and thought you should know that one of the colors is not on the site at this time. Makes it just a wee bit more challenging.

HINT: My socks are of elemental and mythical origin!

p.s. I am adding a link here on this blog, to the Traveling Sock blog that Les and Alice have created so we can keep up with it. Alice and I think that the sock might need a name. Any thoughts?

Monkey Color Question

Notorious Sock Knitters | June 11, 2008
By Marlene

I just finally wound the yarn for my sock monkey. I have the Fire on the Mountain / Sherbet kit. Which should I use for color A and color B (main body)?

Does anyone have pictures of monekys in this color scheme (in either A/B variant)?
